Stereo Connections - Is a blue wire anything to do with Cruise Control?

Just bought my VR6 Sharan and having a few stereo problems - wired for a sony because the speaker connection is wired and fits fine - unfortunately all of the power related cables have been left insulated behing a stereo that wasn't attached at all! Thanks previous owner.

There's a small red wire that seems to be permanently live.

Large red wire that is live when ignition is on.

A couple of brown wires - would there be 2 earths?

There is a blue wire that I don't know what to do with...

Using the above educated guessing have managed to get the stereo working. Great.

I'm worried because having read the owners manual it refers to "being careful not to disturb the speed sensor when fitting an aftermarket stereo".

Cruise is not working but all other electrics on the car are great so trying to do some detective work before calling in the professionals.

I am aware that the VR6 Sharan may be different to many VW's but any help would be great!

The blue wire is normally a 12V switch - you connect it to things like an amp or electrically operated up/down aerial, it sends a 12V pulse down it when you switch your headunit on which lets the amp/aerial know to switch on / off with your headunit.

OK that makes sense - just insulated it for the moment.

There's a spare DIN sized hole underneath the stereo so presumably there is also some wiring to do with that...

Does anyone know anything easy(ish) to check for to make sure Cruise is working?

Cruise control is a vacuum operated system, most common cause of non functioning cruise is due the pipe perishing at the pump end, remove the passenger side indicator, now look into the inner wing cavity and there's the pump check the hoses? cut back and replace a required, also check the operation of the brake and clutch pedal light switches ?! these can also cause a few problems!
