ThermalP4 1
Is 101,000 miles mega mileage on a VR6? 1997 Highline with FVWSH?Apparently maintained regardless of cost.
MarkVRsix 0
101 isnt a lot, just look at this thread http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2052936 on VW Vortex. With regular maintenance and oil changes should go on for ages.If its a late 97 then I believe its less likely the chains will need doing, but being unmechanical I couldn't tell you why! Something to do woth the tensioners being different to pre 97 ones?? I'm sure soemone will set me straight!Mark
B6MFD 0
hmmm mine is a late 97 on 89k and just having the chains done due to a rattle from them
craggsy 91
115k on mine and going strong
pinto 0
Just turned 112K on mine, and its still silent .. im going for the 268' cams tho and changing the chain at the same time 6 pots are easily capable of 250K+ milages if looked after
tinny22 11
just got passed 150,00 on a highline 95 obd1still silent and going strong(touch wood)tinny22
purple highline monster 0
mines on 86k and dosent use a drop of oil or water, as long as its looked after with decent oil and parts they are pretty bullet proof
FishWick 21
Mine's on 121K and I added a charger to it 2K ago, if anything it's getting faster and smoother the older it gets.
MarkGolf 6
I dont trust VR6 enignes to be honest... Its luck of the draw...The mechanic who works on my T5 has a VR6 Golf and his engine went pop at 36k... Then his chains needed doing due to seriousssssss rattle at 67k! My mates old VR has chain rattle when he part ex'd it at 82k...My old corrado vr had 107k with FVWSH and blew a piston/conrod and half a crank shaft out the front of the block! Had only flled the coolant up that morning and checked oil as i was goin on long drive down south! lolI've heard other horror stories too, but its only a small percentage as opposed to the ones that run mint! Justicevr6 0
My VR6 had done 132k and I keep thinking it's stalled when I pull up it is so quite.
Eat this 2
thats blasphemy mark ul be strung up lol i assume any engine will have a small percentage of dodgy ones all i know is when i do give mine a bit of stick (not too often) i feel 100% confident it wont go pop
purple highline monster 0
the way i see it if it goes bang i would be pissed off but i dont worry unduely about it!!! just look after it as best you can with decent oil and servicing and dont abuse it for long periods and most engines will do mega miles, just the odd few that go boom i suppose? andy 0
101k is absolutely nothing on a well maintained VR6. I have two (one's for sale) and they have 106k and 113k and run perfectly. There are examples around with over 200 and even in rare cases over 300k.
Eat this 2
iv heard of 2 on 300k +
antera309 3
My brother's VR is on 110,000 miles now. It still pulls like a train and recorded 185BHP on the rollers last week (with NO engine mods!).I remember talking with Vince about the huge variations in reliability & power between similar mileage VR6 engines - apparently they suffer from Monday engine / Friday engine syndrome:One engine will produce more than 10BHP over standard and go on to 250k miles with no major problems, while another will be nothing but trouble, regardless of how well it's looked after.Luck of the draw, in other words. drewvr6 0
my vr now has 150k on it .still has 190 bhp ,and i had car on track a few times this year lol.if its a good engine dont be scared to use it ,i know a guy with 257k on his vr and he drives it hard
