VR-Six 0
Afternoon all! I've found a good deal on a front set of Audi TT 225 brakes and just want to know a couple of things before buying them. I've read the detailed forums and links about fitting them to a mk3 VR6 but just have a couple of questions: The brakes i've found come with the following: 2x OEM Brake disks (312mm x 25mm) - 2x OEM Brake Calipers - 2x OEM Brake Caliper Carriers - 2x Pair OEM Brake Pads 1) Are there any parts not listed here that I would need for the conversion (other than spacers)? 2) Is this conversion a fairly straight forward swap? 3) Is this conversion possible for a golf with the 280mm brake set-up? I have 17s fitted to my car (ET 30) so hopefully clearance shouldn't be a problem.Any advice on this subject would be greatly appreciated !lol
Joe M 0
You will also need a set of front brake hoses from the later (late '96 on) gti/16v/vr6 golf as they connect to the caliper with a banjo bolt.
VR-Six 0
Thanks Jo - So thats the only extra parts i need? sounds simple enough. I'll try gsf tomorrow.
mattverth 0
I am sure I saw this somewhere else on here, but for reference:http://www.the-corrado.net/wiki/index.php/312mm_brakesI am currently weighing up the cost/benefits of this setup and a comparitively priced 4 pot 328mm brembo setup. Will keep you posted
mk3anni 0
I'm trying to find out if these will fit behind my 16's. Might have to whip one of the rims off my dads TT.
FishWick 21
Wheel clearance won't, or shouldn't be a problem because when the 312s are fitted, they sit 6mm further inboard than the standard 280/288 setup.Put it this way, if you wheels currently clear the 280/288 setup (and solitudes do, just) then you won't have a problem with the 312s. Incidentally, if you already have a 95-98 VR6 with the 288s, all you need for this conversion is carriers and discs, which are
VRmonster 1
0 is like Ice on Ice and 1 is the metaphorical equivalent of shoving a baseball bat through bicycle spokesLMFAO, can just imagine my vr stopping on its nose with the rear end in the air and my g/f flying out through the roof, lol. (not that im bitter that she has cheated on me or anything )
mattverth 0
So in theory, a 328 mm brembo gt set made for a audi tt will/wont require a spacer for everything to align?
VR6Rich 3
So will the TT/S3 setup fit behind 16" wheels?
VRmonster 1
id imagine the brembo tt setup will need the spacer as the brembos are set up for the smaller hub offset on the tt, so you need to drop the caliper back. and the tt setup should fit behind 16" wheels as the standard tt wheels were 16" anyway.i need to get my ass into gear and do this while my cars off the road. just havent got much cash at the moment and need to buy the 288 calipers too. VR6Rich 3
Anybody got the part numbers for the disks and carriers? Also where is the best place to get Ferodo DS2500 pads and how much?kevhaywire : how much does your mate want for the 6mm washers?
VRmonster 1
are the audi tt calipers just the same as the vw 288s then, as i have a set lined up and just want to make sure theyre the same.
mightyvr6 0
I'm pretty sure the calipers are the same but the carriers are different.
FishWick 21
Yeah the 288 and TT calipers are identical. Yes 312s fit behind 16s.I got my Ferodos from www.balancemotorsport.co.uk and they cost
VR6Rich 3
If you can find out about the washers that would be cool kev. ;-)
VRmonster 1
washers or plates, id imagine you would get more vibration with just washers, but 6m plates would hold more.
antera309 3
Designa Dubs in Basingstoke made a suitable pair of anodised s/s spacers up for my TT 312mm brakes, they should still have the measurements for them if anyone else needs some making up.They also told me that longer carrier-to-hub bolts are not required, although info I've read on various VW forums indicates otherwise. I'll have to go back to Designa if the bolts I got with the brakes turn out to be too short. As regards hoses, I have the original hoses on the car (VR6 280mm), plus the hoses from the Audi TT that came with the brakes. I have the banjo bolts for both. Are we saying that I won't be able to use either of the hoses I have?
mightyvr6 0
The TT hoses are too long. How would you connect the banjo end to the 280mm hoses you have? I've just had some braided hoses made up by goodridge for
VRmonster 1
think you should post up the order details for goodrige, as ive already fitted some to mine but will want to swap them over for the tt style ones when i do the brake swap.
antera309 3
I haven't compared the hoses on the car to the ones on the 312mm brakes as yet.Assuming the 280mm hoses don't fit, a Goodridge kit for a 1996-onwards Golf VR6 should do the job, then?
mightyvr6 0
Yes, the goodridge kit for late Golfs (with 288mm brakes) should fit ok.I don't think there is a part no. for the lines I ordered as I bought them form a local hose supplier. I showed them the ends I required, measured the length of my original hose and they sent the infomation to goodridge who made them and sent them back 3 days later. (Could have bought the late golf vr6 set but I've already got goodridge all round and I think the set costs about
FishWick 21
OK, the hand made 6mm spacers are
VRmonster 1
sign me up for those washers then. you gonna be the middle man here kev? and cheers for the bolt tips. will bear it in mind.any recomendations for discs, or are just standard audi ones best?
antera309 3
Where did you get the bolts from, Kev?
VR6Rich 3
Ill have a set of spacers too Kev. Also, wheres the best place to get the bolts from?
