vr6matt 0
I have just had my car serviced for the winter now it is getting colder by a speicialist and they put mobil 1 in it.I asked them at the time of the service if they could put 10w - 40 in, but they said they reccomnded mobil 1 for a car like a VR6 and it is good for the winter as it gets round the engine quicker because it is thinner??? I asked vw what oil to put it and they said 10/40, but when i brought the car it had mobil1 in it and didnt have any trouble.... but was just wondering if this oil is okay for my engine. ThanksMatt
Nerih 0
i find 15w/40 is fine, its quite thick, good temperature rating...im not sure about 0w, isnt that quite thin, ur vr ma y **s it out everywhere, my supercharger thread has quite ALOT of oil related things in it, i think its pages 10-20...lol. Ultimatetune 0
mobil 1 is to thin, when its hot its like water. in my opinion i would use either millers 10-60 motorsport or castrol rs 10-
VR6Pete 1,455
You really need Syntha Silver for any VR6 mate,
jbell004 0
So 0-40W may harm a VR6 engine. The Users manual lists it.Mine has done 85K.
antera309 3
0W-40 is generally too thin for a 80,000 mile+ VR6 engine. Synta Silver (semi synthetic) 10W-40 is a good all year round choice for general road use. Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 is an acceptable alternative if you live miles away from a VW/Audi/Seat dealer. Ultimatetune 0
But bear in mind that Maganatec will not mix with other oils due to its special blend and magnatized polimers (bad spelling) so any residue in the engine wont mix well with magnatec
FishWick 21
Quantum is Castrol in a different container and will mix with most other oils, except ester based full synths.I recommend Silkolene Pro S 10W/50 full synth in the VR. Good prices from Oilman on the Corrado forum. It's a full ester based 100% synth (ester is an aero jet engine lubricant) and is the best I've tried to date. 20L for
