Ok, I've just tested the cable and free software... works just fine. Had a engine speed sender fault code which I reset. No other codes showed up. Couldn't test my ABS module as the software couldn't communicate with the ABS module.... my ABS light comes on and stays on permanently, has done for months, could be the module at fault seeing as how the VAG COM couldn't communicate with it. A very interesting point to also note was the real time logging of engine performance data, this can either be viewed on the included 'VAG SCOPE' software, or in Microsoft Excel. I took the car for a drive while logging data and could go back and view various parameters such as rpm, coolant temp, injector on time, EGR temp,, battery voltage etc.

I'm impressed so far and for

Mine is OBD1. Correct with the speed sender fault, tells you that in the excellent downloaded PDF manual. ine has a OBD2 connector (16 pin type), though you can buy the earlier type connector too (2 x plug connector). If all you want is to be able to read/clear fault codes then this lead/software is ideal. :)

Very easy to use:

laptop must have a serial port on it, or usb if you buy a usb cable. install software. connect cable to pc and OBD port. run software. click on test or series of tests you wish to perform. after a minute or so you get a list of fault codes and an explanation of what the code means. you can also reset the code. hope this helps, for detailed info download the PDF file instuction guide for the version of the software you require from http://ross-tech.com :)
