Hey everyone, hope somebody can help!!!

I have a 92 Golf Vr6, standard apart from an induction kit, 62K miles and full VAG service history. Today I drove to work....about a 20min trip, parked up for about 2 hours, drove off and got about 3mins away when suddenly the car cut out. It wouldn't restart but turned over no probs. I left it about 4 hours, tried again, it started and ran for about 2 mins again. I've towed it back home and had a look, again, after a wait of 3 hours it strarted then cut off. It has the standard VW alarm which I guess has an immobilser. there's no spark from the coil to dizzy! I suppose it could be the coil failing???

Whats the small Black unit under the expansion bottle, I've been told these fail but have no idea what they do??

Has anybody any idea what has caused this???

Cheers,

Steve

the small black thing is the fuse relay, that shouldn't be the problem its a sealed unit(although mine went when water got in through a crack in the clear plastic cover.) it won't be that though as that controls the fans i believe.

it sounds to me like a fueling problem, either too much causing it to flood which may explain why its fine after youve left it a while.or not enough posssibly failing fuel pump, blocked fuel line

i would look at the fuel pump, lift the circular plate in the boot(under the carpet) and listen to see if you can here it constantly buzzing when the ignition is on.

id say it was your coil, follow the kinglead from the dizzy to the back of the engine bay and there is a small black/silver cube. these overheat and fail. then once cool will work for about 2 mins then die again. i have one spare in my garage if your interested as i converted to coilpack.

I have checked the fuel pump which buzzes as it should but thanks anyway stockers!

I'll see about the coil, I might be able to get one locally (I live in Guernsey in the Channel Islands) if not I'd deffo be interrested in the one you have VRmonster.

Thanks both of you, I'll get back later!!

:)
