FishWick 21 Posted April 28, 2004 Report Share Posted April 28, 2004 mine sounds a bit like the link. But the noise comes from the drivers side. Local VW specialist said my big end bearing was shot. New engine time. He said he's seen quite a few 80-90k engines with the same problem. I am well and truly gutted.New engine? I doubt it. All the 4 cylinder VWs can have big ends done with the engine in situ. You just drop the sump, undo the bearing caps, and stick new shells in. I can't see why the VR would be any different.I'd get a second opinion before you get too p'd off about it. Link to post Share on other sites
