Geastb 0
I've just fitted a new (s/h) engine with 19,000 (not documented so could be more) its been stood for a while and 1 or a couple of the tappets are noisy - if it doesnt clear its self through a bit od use how easy is it to change them? And where is the best place to get them?

silverline 0
whats the difference between the earlier ones and the later?
Geastb 0
Nice one mine is the earlier model! How easy to change? Is it a head off job or in situ?
andy 0
If it's been sat for a while it can take a while for the tappets to fully pressurise. How long have you run it for?
Ultimatetune 0
try driving it hard with new oil, but let the car get up to temp 1st.
silverline 0
its an easy job once the camshafts are off, no the head can stay on. the cam cover needs to come off obviously and so does the upper chain cover as the chain needs to be slackened in order for the cams to come out. once they are off you just slide the old followers out and drop the new ones in.once the camshafts are fitted you must not start the engine for at least half an hour because the valves need time to settle. something like that. antera309 3
Do the followers have to be bathed in oil prior to fitting?
Ultimatetune 0
never done a vr but have always left tappets to bath in oil before hand
silverline 0
the ones i bought from gsf were already coated in oil and kept in a sealed plastic box. so i didnt bother.the oil is only really there to stop them rusting. as soon as the engine is started they get blasted with oil.its good practice to but if they are already oiled then its not critical.
