Wear indicators with Performance Pads?!?

Recommended Posts

I'm just about to take delivery of some predator pads front and rear. Now although the rears will fit fine, i've been told they don't come with wear indicators on the front, and you can't fit any. Any ideas on how to get rid of dashboard brake light? Or how to fit wear indicators?

Also, whats the best discs to fit on fronts? I've a '94 VR Golf.

Cheers peeps.

Yes, my 1994 VR6 has a wear indicator, for the front pads only. Not all VR6s have it though. Did the old front pads you took off have a wire coming out of them?

Tar-Ox G88 (40-groove) discs are of good quality and are recommended by VW specialist tumers AmD (see http://www.auto-amd.com/brakesproducts.asp ).

I have these fitted to my car. I didn't notice much of an improvement in braking force over the standard VW discs, but they look great behind the alloy wheels and make a nice noise when you use them hard.

I uprated my pads and disks t pagid . The new pads came with a wear indicators aswell. When i plugged them in the wear indicator warning light on the dash still stays on? dont know why this is maybe there is some problem with the wire to the pads or somthing..like antera says, havent noticed a great difference either.Any more advice about the warning light on the dash would be appreciated.

Yes there is a wire coming out of them, i was told by my mate who has a 106 gti who had a similar problem, that if you cut the wires going to the wear indicators that the dash light goes off. Think i'll buy another set of standard disks, thanks for advice.

Humm.. not sure then mate, ive unplugged the sensors on both wheels but the light still stays on? this is doing the same as cutting the wires like your mate did is it? or does it still need an earth?

Right then, the info you've all been waiting for!! To stop the light coming on the dash, what you have to do is connect the two wires going to the wear sensor together. WARNING, there will be no light come on when your brake pads are low though.

antera, i don't know what you were trying to say, but the light does come on, its on all the time!!

Anyway, hope that helps BenW16
