Ferrari VR6 0
Hey guys,Not 100% sure but im thinking that perhaps my driveshafts are worn as i can hear like a 'crack' or 'snap' developing when i brake, i can only hear it at low speeds (especially in traffic jams) but am not 100% sure whether it's coming from the front or back or the car but definitely the left side...Mine's now on 108K, has anyone had experience of this 'cracking' sound? Cheers,Dave.
VR-Six 0
Hi Dave - My left-hand front driveshaft gave way a few months ago on the outboard side. Basically i knew somethin was wrong but about 20miles before it happened my gearstick would clunk everytime i lifted off the clutch when driving. When it gets to that point you know its gonna break! But I had the same clunkin/cracking sound when breaking and driving slowly and also when taking sharp corners. Now the driveshaft has been replaced I still have the same clunking coming from the right-hand front wheel and still haven't got to the bottom of it!! Can you feel the clunking/cracking through the steering or the pedal when braking? Some of the guys on here suggested it could be the CV joint or wheel bearing but haven't got round to checking yet. If you do find out what the cause is let me know. CheersAlex
Ferrari VR6 0
Hi Alex,Well i’m pleased to hear it's not just mine if you know what i mean and yea i think it's probably the same thing, i rekon it's probably the front left drive shaft that's going on mine, i take it if you've still got problems that you did get the right side done at the same time? Can you feel the clunking/cracking through the steering or the pedal when braking?I can't exactly feel it through the pedal or wheel yet as it's only just developing but a can hear a feint crack when i brake at very low speeds but I’m sure it will develop into a clunk before long. Anyhow I’m gonna get it up on the ramp next weekend so i’ll update you with anything we find. By the way how much did your driveshaft/s cost?Cheers,Dave.
Ferrari VR6 0
Just to let anyone know that's interested, just got back from the garage and it's the rear left (near side) wheel bearing that's shot to pieces, so not a drive shaft...
