SankysVR6 1
there should be a lip on the bottom of the sill. It might that some muppet mehcanic or owner could squashed the sill.If you look at the side of the car you should see to arrow heads pointing to the jacking points.as for the trolley jack, you need to make some wheel ramps out of wood and then drive on to the ramps and insert the jack
vr6highline28 0
sanky is that lip the piece of flat metal pointing towards the ground where the arrow is ? its just that i normally jack my car up using a support (part of the underbody) about 2 inches in from the sill - am i doing this wrong ? (ps need to know after knackering one of the solitudes !!!) - cheers - Adrian.
Nerih 0
yep, my car has that metal sill squashed flat, the rear one is okay though......ive had mine slip off the jack luckily, the damn thing fell sideways and it wasnt too high, so didnt get damaged.use a trolly jack under the cups near the jack points.. six appeal 53
2 be honest mate, I'd be very careful using the VW scissor jack, only in a dire emergency (ie. flat tyre) I personally drive mine up onto a bit of wood and then this enables me to get the trolley jack onto the subframe of the car to get a good stable lift. Pittuf 0
I've had my sills fixed recently....mine were all squashed like everyone elses it would seem.I have jacked up from the body work just further in from the sills....I found this broke the rubbery protective layer though....so decided against it.If you remove the splitter (if possible) from the front of the car you can jack it off a trolley jack at the front. And I think you can jack off the rear beam as well.....I'm not sure about that though. gazchill 0
Hi,I know this is a little late given the discussion was a year ago but :-If there is only one jacking point on the car (If the scissors sill is knackered) how do i jack up and then support with stands. To do this you usually need two supports (One for the jack and one for the stands)I need to support the rear of the car, and from looking at the back I can't jack it up under the boot then put the supports by the wheels.Hope that made sense. c4mbl 1
jack it up on the cross member, this will give you enough room to get the jack, and also the axle stand stand in, for support.
gazchill 0
...mine has a rear anti roll bar under this. Any probs if i support the car on the roll bar? with a piece of wood between the bar and the stand OR would this damage the barThanks in advance.
c4mbl 1
As long as the whole weight aint on the anti roll bar then yeh thats fine, but dont support it using only the roll bar.
gazchill 0
OK - So does this mean I'm a bit scewed. I can trolly jack using the jacking point just behind the sill. But I can't support it because the rollbar is on.Everything I've read ses not to go under the car just with a jack.I'm wanting to do work on the brakes so I can't leave it on a ramp either.
