stockers 1
hey, it turns out after all that the oil in the coolant is a the head gasket being knackered, even after it was tested to be fine (how glad am i that its under warranty !!!)will the knackered head gasket have affected performance? will it come back quicker and sharper when its replaced? mk3anni 0
If the gasket failed in such a way to cause a compression loss you'll see a gain once its fixed, if no compression was lost you'll see no difference in performance.
stockers 1
would the knackered head have damaged anything else in the engine that i should look out for?also just out of curiosity, how much would a head gasket replacement cost at a garage?
silverline 0
being an aluminium head its possibl it could have warped. a compression loss through the head gasket wouldnt be significant enough to notice performance wise but it may run smoother.
Eat this 2
i reckon ud have to cook it good and proper to warp the head tbh did the water temp go through the red??
stockers 1
its weird, they tested the head and said it was ok, oil temp never went above 104, pressure was at a constant 90(never went over) got no warning lights and it shifted like the shit off a shoval!now having looked at the oil and coolant they said the only thing that could cause such a mix would be the head !dodge but in my last vr the head was replaced(by the previous owner) because of the same symptoms and it turned out to be the oil cooler.... Eat this 2
u mean water temp never went over 90? heheif it didnt go above that i wouldnt worry about the head being cooked at all and 104 degree oil temp is the top end of normal aswell
stockers 1
yep sorry, water temp %-
Eat this 2
i wouldnt worry thats pretty much operatin temp
mk3anni 0
ErrrrrrrIf the oil cooler, the one housed in the block was to crack it would cause the oil and water to mix. This is why i removed mine and went for an external cooler.
stockers 1
i thought all vr's had an external oil cooler on the bottom front of the engine?
antera309 3
Nah, the standard cooler is an oil-water heat exchanger block bolted to the front of the engine block itself, right next to the oil filter. If you've seen an external oil cooler on a VR, it's an aftermarket one.
