ni-golf 0
the past week I have noticed as slight "splutter" at low revs (around 1000) especially noticeable when pulling away from stationary. The car still seems as powerful as ever thou and it doesnt do this all the time. I noticed it all day then the next day it was fine.

28v6r 0
Sounds rather like dampness amigo , VRs seem prone to it... take the coil pack off and plug leads and dry gently in the oven until fairly warm to touch then spray liberally wif WD40 alternatively coat in Silicone Grease !shy then refit, then you should be OK for a short time.....Try that and see how you go.. kilokilla 0
hi mate what year is your car it sounds like your idle stabilisation valve might be knackered if its obd1 you can replace isv if its obd2 you are prob looking at new throttle body cos isv is built in on them. ni-golf 0
is there a guide to cleaning the TB and ISV ? is the ISV on the TB?
jb9999 0
Before you change your thermostat, the bottom hose is supposed to be cold. As the coolant cools down in the radiator, it goes to the bottom of the radiator and then enters the engine again. AS the coolant warms up it rises to the top of the engine where it leaves the engine through the top hose into the radiator to be cooled down again. Sounds as if there is nothing wrong with your thermostat mate.
vr200 0
ha ha ha after 2day i read this...i was changin the thermostat and the plastic pipe that runs to it from the water pump broke lmao now i had to order that lmao
jb9999 0
Sos mate! Been off line for a bit, just read it today as I'm having similar prob with the sputtery thing and was looking for guidance. Normally if a thermostat knacks it will start overheating as it dont open when it should so the coolant can,t get out of the engine to the radiator to cool down. I have yet to have a car where the thermostat sticks open! Better late than never (friendly advice that is) jim
vr200 0
it stuck closed in my series 1 rs turbo m8.. im cleaning my throtle body out monday and puttin it all back together.. so ill kepp u updated
jb9999 0
Exactly. they dont stick open. I cleaned mine out today but havn't had it out since so don't know if its worked or not. Don't know if mines obd1 or 2 either. Any easy ways to tell? Mines on a P plate, think its 96.
vr200 0
i think it is obd1-with dizzy cap ect.. and obd2 has coil pack?? not sure tho
jb9999 0
Like I said, they never stick open because of the spring behind the valve. Let us know if the cleaning of the tb works. Cheers
bazz780 0
jimbo if yours is 96 P its defo an obd2 engine with a different on board diagnostic model and a slightly bigger throttle body to obd1.cleaning it should make all the difference (atleast its free to clean.. except a coupla quid for carb cleaner)keep the post updated with results.... good luck - easy fixes are the best!! ni-golf 0
ok carb cleaner has sorted my idling problem, its no longer irregular and doesnt need a blip on the accelerator to get her started any more so im happy... it has had no effect on the rough splutter problem when warm, still just as bad.
