CV BOOT safe to drive or not???

Recommended Posts

I had the car serviced and he said the passenger side cv boot needed replacing , the last two days there's been quite a severe knocking noise when i turn corners etc on the passenger side, is this the CV boot?? Should i stop driving the car??? Until this is fixed or will i cause more damage>>??

cheers jez

slim was your car knocking ? when you turned corners?

No, as soon as I noticed the CV grease splattered on my alloys, I booked it in to get fixed.

If something needs fixed, then it's not going to get better on its own, be as well getting it fixed as soon as you possibly can before it breaks anything else.

it is a strainght forward job. 1st undo the main drive shaft bolt leave the car on the grounf for this, these nuts can be a pain decent leverage will shift it, then jack up car remove wheel.....you will need to undo the ball joint of the whish bone so that the driveshaft can pop out. cv's are a push fit so just tap it of witha mallet...next slip on the new cv boot first followed by you new cv..regrease pop boot over and secure it.

and the refir of drive shaft is just the opposite of taking it off. use a new bolt for the drive shaft...should be in the cv kit.

and your done

trust me just be methodical about it and it will be fine the only pais to watch out for:

1 have a spare jack to help with the whishbone when you try and pop in the ball joint....this always pardon the pun turn out to be a ball ache lol ull be fine wd all relvant nuts n bolts prior to the job
