is it worth getting a VR6 if most of my driving is city based

Hi,

Live in London & have been toying with the idea of getting a VR6. Current car is MKII Golf 16v with an 2.0 ABF Engine.

Been reading through these forums & seem to get the impression that the VR will not really be enjoyed that much around town. Any views on this especially since my MKII is fine for the constant stop start driving in London.

You'll get the most out of a VR6 on long runs to be honest - it was intended as an autobahn cruiser. If your gonna be doing a lot of city driving you'll pouring the petrol into it all day long!

Keep the Mk2. At this time of year with the cold (up here) the mpg is ridiculously bad

Thanks again for your honest answers. Looks like I'll throw some more cash (4 branch manifold & Maybe cams) at the MKII for now as the next car on my want list after the VR was a MK5 GTI & there is no cash for that at the moment!!

Will eventually try & get it up to around 180BHP so at least it will be in VR territory up to 110mph or so.

Whats your mkII running at the mo my mkII has a 2.0L bottom end ported and polished head magnex exhaust and 4 branch and its already putting out the same power as my VR6 without a full engine set up!

At a guess I would say it's around 160 BHP at the moment. Only put the ABF in a few months back & the engine having only done about 40,000 is still tight.

I am off to Stealth for a full service & rolling road tune this month & would be happy if they can it to push out near to 170bhp with the addition of a 4 branch manifold. Then hopefully a head & cam job after that with the fuel money I'll save now that I am not getting a VR!!
