De-Cat

Hi All,

Was thinking of de-catting my VR until the next MOT Was wondering if this was a difficult job and the best way of going about it?

I know it will make the car well loud !amazed ,but was wondering if there will be any power gains and roughly how much it will cost?

I've taken the cat off of my Golf & its not very loud at all! The exhaust is slightly deeper & it does pop and rumble sometimes which is what I wanted. It gave me a little more torque etc but nothing amazing - cost me

Also, is it hard to put my good old cat back on for the MOT?

Nah I wouldnt have thought so unless you've got a turbo or super charger bolted on - for proper flames fit a turbo and anti-lag kit, that'd look and sound amazing!

mine has ahigh flow cat and pops and spits small flames but only if i floor it up to 6k revs and lets straight off which is seriously harsh on the car.

had a guy flash and stop me as he thought my car was on fire.

all going to change now cos i got an asbo for excessive noise so standard or seriously quiet performance exhaust going on soon!!

well mine has a decat an no silencers i reckon it spits flames ( i hope it does lol ) but iv never seen anythin in the mirror but it does goes pop bang below 2k revs and occasionally changin down a cog at 3k ish VERY nicely

I have a couple of questions about taking the cat out of the system.

1.Whats stopping you from smashing the cat out of the pipe

2.Would it affect the basic running of the car

3.Would it pass the MOT with it removed

No effect on mpg, slight bottom end loss, slight top end gain, slight increase in noise, not intrusive imho

and the other;, no, it wont pass an mot without a cat! and the bottom end loss is not a prob for those that have a vgi fitted, eh steve?

I remember a little while ago I saw a thread on another forum about mot rules I just found it and it says as long as the car is under the required reading it will still pass.

torque right through revs pulls better,....but dick who fitted it

i dont think he put a new gasket on to front pipe were joins

de-cat, plus i need new bracket on middle section the clamp

is to big been out in it this morning i,m sure its blowing

i would do it my self if car was,nt so low do u loose power if

blowing. r/r next week.

the de cat on yours is supersprint..........the one in the pic looks to me like one of the cheaper types on the market.

iv got my raceland on and it sounds like the exhaust is blowing at tickover but it isnt its just the gases flowin soooo much better
