Guest HIGH-liner
Hi, I posted a thread about this problem before. i own a 96 Golf VR6 Highline, after weeks of messing around with speed sensors and wires i've found that disturbing the plug on the abs pump loom under the bonet will make the abs light go out. This will solve the prob for maybe a day but the abs will play up, triggering whenever i brake, and the light will come back on.I've changed two sensors, diagnostics still say they are faulty, can't see any loose connections on the loom, several garages have shrugged their sholders and said i could try replacing the ecu and pump but not sure. Try replacing a
antera309 3
Yes, the pump and ECU are seperate - the ECU is usually located under the rear seat on the right hand side.Surely if wiggling a wire makes the light go on or off, that points to a wiring fault?Or maybe there is a bad contact in the wiring connector on the pump. What fault codes was it showing? Guest HIGH-liner
The fault that showed up the last two times was the rear right sensor, i changed the sensor about a month before. I've looked closely at all the wires and contacts on the multi plug and all looks fine. spraying a contact cleaner in the plug will fix the problem for a day. then the abs will go off as if it thinks a wheel is locked when driving or when pressing the brake lightly, this happens at any speed and can be a short burst or last until i slow down enough for the abs light to come on. francisjonno 2
Mine does a similar thingABS light comes on and ABS stops work but only when it's really wet (when ABS is actually useful :@ )Fault code i get is:Address 03: ABS BrakesController: 3A0 907 379 EComponent: ABS/EDS ITTAE 20 GI V00Coding: 03704Shop #: WSC 000001 Fault Found:01276 - ABS Hydraulic Pump (V64)16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent"Is this the same as you get HIGH-Liner? Seademon 0
If you do need to replace the pump & ECU you'll need someone to do it that has VAG com otherwise you'll have loads of problems trying to set it up etc - had the same grief when I changed mine. I think that the part numbers have to match exactly aswell - I dont think you can just fit one thats from the same year etc as you'll get probs (this is what my mechanic said) After a couple of months I managed to get a good 2nd hand pump & ECU for
shail 0
Theres an ABS pump & ECU on Edition 38 at the moment. Click green arrow..... http://www.edition38.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=23477 But it doesnt say if its OBDI or II, or if indeed they are from the same car
francisjonno 2
Says its all from one 97 model vr6 so should be OBDII, would need to match up part no. with what you've got already though
Guest HIGH-liner
Cheers for the replies, i'v had a look but the unit has to be removed to get to the part numbers, great design! I've been told that it is the unit with traction that i need. VW told me i wouldn't be able to match a part number with them as their part number won't match the one on the unit itself there all different.I don't have a VAG com or know anyone with one, what is it and where can i find one?How do i know if my car is an OBDI or II, its a 1996 VR6 Highline? francisjonno 2
I would've thought yours would be OBDII but there's a guide here:http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?68661For to access vag.com you need a cable and a laptop. Search vag.com on ebay for the cable, i bought mine from alpha bid after many recommendations on here. check ou this thread for more info http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?83560.0#post_83598
ni-golf 0
I will be replacing the ABS pump very soon with a good 2nd hand one I found for a good price. If you are for changing it yourself perhaps this will help http://www.houseofthud.com/cartech/abspump/ABSProcedure.html
kilokilla 0
it could be corrosion on connector see if you can clean terminals up also the sensor gets signal from a plate on back of hub if this is dirty and corroded or oily it can cause faulty sensor readings.
