illiance 0
I have had my vr since August and up until the start of November it has been starting fine. Since then however i have had to boost/jump it everyday, I have charged the battery (which is only 10 months old) on numerous occasions and yet it still seems to be drained the next day. Is the problem likely to be the battery or alternator? The batttery has a small hole which changes colour when it needs charging or replacing, it is however saying that there is no problem as it is showing green as opposed to white (white = needing replacement) If anyone could give me any help it would be great, thanks, Tom
SankysVR6 1
Firstly have a look in the boot and esure that light inside there is not all the time. ie goes off when the boot is closed.Secondly check the Ampere on the battery is correct one for the car. Can't remember off top of my head what it soupsed to be.Have you got a multimeter to check the battery and alternator? If not take it to somewher like Kwik-Fit and ask them to do battery test. stockers 1
the battery should have a years guarantee so take it back first, ( it needs to be a heavy duty battery)if the remote central locking works then the battery does have some life in it otherwise you wouldn't be able to get in the car. so could be the ignition barrel or starter motor or damp coilpack
Petesvw 0
Could be that the alternator is screwed, and isn't sharging the battery.Like sanky said tho, get a battery test first.
matth76 1
The coilpack is a weak spot on the golf VR6 odb2's. I would bet it's that.

illiance 0
thanks, I will try to check the battery tomorrow, the car did have a sub and an amp in which may have killed the battery so that it does not hold its charge, I will look into these things. Just out of interest, where is the coil pack?
stockers 1
as you look at he engine its the black box at he right hand side of the engine.there is a guide in the members section about testing the coil pack, it will have everything you need to do in there.
