Workshop manuals - availability/recommendations?

I could do with a workshop/service manual for my 97 golf.

Apart from the normal Haynes manual what else is available and is there anything better - preferably at a reasonable price.

I'd prefer a computer based one if there's something good.

I don't need one just yet, but it's better to be one step ahead. !grr

The Bentley manual is very good, made in the US, and you can usually find one on ebay, though I can't see one there at the moment! I think there is a CD version as well as the paper manual.

Is the Bentley manual very US like or does it translate fine?

I did look for one but couldn't find it available in the UK. Found several places selling it in the US but none of them shipped internationally. :/

I got a UK version off the guy i brought my car off, its pretty good with loads of illustrations and is for the 2.8 and 2.9 VR6 and GTI engines. Its a Linsdey Porter Guide !dodge , not really heard of them before !dodge but it does the job ok

I've always wondered is the Bentley manual in metric or ye olde inches, feet, lbs and all that rubbish?

It's a German car so i would have thought that it was in metric but i wouln't put it past the yanks to do it all in imperial.
