VR6Mal 0
Someone been threatening me over the last year, as we had a business we jointly ran, that wasnt working out so went separate ways, usual threats thought nothing of it, this morning woke up and found a empty litre bottle of brake fluid on the roof and entire contents emptied out, ~a) washed it off straight away but what potential damage as it caused? should I inform police, or wouid this aggrevate matters? antera309 3
a) depends how quickly you got to it. Brake fluid can take off paint pretty rapidly. You might get away with just having to T-cut the affected area. I would inform the Police. If only to cover yourself if he comes back and does something else. You may be able to get a restraining order placed on him.
VR6Mal 0
well i parked car up last night at 11am, but didnt go out till this morning 7.30, so anytime in between, it clean now and looks okay, but would it show on paint now and later on?
mk3anni 0
Would usually shwo fairly quickly in my experience, not that I go round vandelising cars or anything.
ingham 5
may be ok if car had good layer of wax but you will be very lucky if no damage
masterginger 0
yeah i agree with antera309 its one thing to issue threats, anyone can do that, but its another to vandalise your VR6....... ~ ~
dub_weiser 0
I was on the receiving end of this a few years ago, happened overnight and rain washed it down the sides of my car. I wasn't lucky and required a respray to the effected areas which was practically the whole car. Gutted for you mate, is a shitty thing to experience. What goes around must come around
VR6Mal 0
cheers guys, getting cctv fitted all round, and loved having car parked in front, might have to resort hiding it in lock up,
VR6Mal 0
having waxed it every 2 weeks on average, has helped as there is no fading of the roof or sides, only thing is rubber round sunroof is bit fcuked, phew not that bad as i thought it was,
28v6r 0
Usually, during preparation before painting, the car gets washed down in cellulose thinners to remove all traces of oil and silicone left on the body work. It MAY be worth giving the panel a wash down with the same then applying 2-3 coats GOOD Carnuba wax, then you can rest a bit easier for next time as it won't have as much effect.... TVR6 0
Is something like vandalism covered by insurance I wonder?
28v6r 0
Yes it is, but its a claim that YOU have to pay for and will go against you both having to pay the excess and at renewal time where your premium will rise due to the claim !grr ~
TVR6 0
True, but in the event that someone was unlucky to have their car totally trashed then it would be cheaper to have the insurance pay for a respray and you pay the excess and increase in premium than to pay for the damage out of your own pocket. In this case it's not worth it for the small area damaged.
matth76 1
Sorry to hear what happened mate. I would take photos and inform the police definitely. It's criminal damage. Glad your car was ok. The intent to damage it was certainly there. I hope it wasn't your brake fluid they used! If you know who did it let the police know.
purple highline monster 0
evidence is the toughest part of getting someone knicked and prosecuted, have you asked the neighbours if they saw anything? these situations can get a bit silly, not so long ago another member had their whole car wrecked in simmilar attack, keep your friends close and your enemies closer mate! your lucky really, where i live people put your back window in and throw a coke bottle full of lit petrol in and run!! charming! golf on 20s 1
Hi mate, not all brake fluids have the contents to strip paint now so you may have been lucky in the fact that this assh*le used one of these! what a c*cknose!! i personally would go round and batter him with the empty bottle!!!!!!! purple highline monster 0
he he yeah thats a point, it wasnt silicon brake fluid was it? (higher boiling point used on rally cars) that would give you and amazing water repelant shine! and no damage!
VR6Mal 0
no normal run of the mill dot 4 brake fluid, its harmed paintwork as in leaving streaks even after polishing roof, but Im going to try T-Cut and see from there if any in difference,
TVR6 0
No, use Farecla G10, it's a light cutting compound that blends and cleans the paint work. It won't take anywhere near as much paint as T-Cut will.
