jay 0
iv got a set of gaz shocks with apex spings 40mm drop but the front is sitting lower and it rubs can i buy stronger springs. what make are you lot useing????? (
MrBen 0
On a VR that nice you want some decent suspension! If you stick to non-coilover, go for Koni shocks with Eibach springs. Or go for decent coilovers such as FK Konigsports. Costs a bit for either, but it's so worth it!
jay 0
gaz shocks are a lot better than koni need to know if there is a heavy duty spring out there i can use as im useing apex and they are shit what are you lot useing and how does your car sit !lol
purple highline monster 0
eibach springs are supposedly the ones to have

Really????EVERYONE reccomends the koni and eibach setup for mk3 golfs, probably becuase it works the best for a non coilover setup.I use FK Konigsports, and my car sits exactly how I wanted it to!!!!! Seademon 0
GAZ shocks are a cheaper version of Spax - a mate of mine fitted a set to his saph cossie and sold them on after a bit cos they werent very good. I've got Bilstein coilovers & the rides great. No point in putting cheap gear on cos it'll just end up costing you more in the long run ie: fitting 'heavy duty springs'
Brianvr 0
i would agree with the others on this, as looking to do the same soon ,as with coilovers you can set the suspention at the hight that you want.which can also help you cure rubbing ect.but if you go with springs and shocks you are limited to a certain hight only full stop....hop this makes things clearer.so what offset do you have if your wheels are rubbing arches. purple highline monster 0
dont forget if you change your springs again you need to get full camber & track done all over again! if it was me personally i would leave it as it is and drive carefully and save up
Seademon 0
Also depends on which size wheels and tyres your using if your getting rubbage that might have something to do with it
jay 0
realy cant put the shocks down as they work realy well and did you know the guy who worked for leda is now working for gaz, they will just get better. anyway you lot say i should get coilover ? im running 17 i cant belive you cant buy differnt poundige springs. did you know they do one spring for all mk3 golf i think the vr6 engine is alot heavier than a 2.0ltr so the v sittes lower its mad there must be someone out there can help me !sad
Seademon 0
Ah sorry I thought it was Spax - but if its Leda, a few people who were working for them left to set up there own company (Gaz) I would have thought that if they were selling a kit for the VR6 then it would have come with the right springs - if you've fitted it correctly and your running 205/40/17 tyres you shouldnt have a problem so obviously somethings wrong somewhere. If you want different poundage springs etc I would speak to someone like Demon Tweeks as they do all that kind of thing but if you bought the Gaz kit - I would speak to them to see what they have to say about it - you dont wanna be shelling out the

sijo 0
I've got Spax RSX kit on my VR and it fanastic on a flat road, round smooth corners, but the spring rate is actually too high for normal road usage and makes the ride very bouncy indeed. I have them setup so many different ways and have just come to the conclusion, I should have bought some konisports . . . I can'd fault the shox, it's th spring rate, it they got that right they would be almongst the best out there.
billy45 0
im well pissed with my suspention i got supersport coilovers and the ride is so hard it hurts wish id have put the extra 50 in to get fk'sbilly

petervr6 0
i can second that the spax spring are wellll bouncey you need you seat belt on to stop you head smashing off the roof i might change it soon its doing my nit in after 4days.
matth76 1
Are Spax very similar to GMAX suspension kits (aren't the two companies related)? Are GMAX kits bouncy like Spax? Why would they make kits that are more bouncy than standard suspension ?? I was thinking about having a GMAX kit fitted soon. I may give it a miss if it is more bouncy than standard.Where's a good place to get FK Highsports? And what kind of price are they... do they offer a good ride? Ideally I want it firmer than standard but not 'too' firm that my teeth shatter.
mattverth 0
I'll put my vote in for H&R coilovers. I have the same wheels as Jay (ET 35), with the same drop, if not more, and the fronts are on 5mm spacers to clear the calipers. I have only once had an issue with rubbage when entering a driveway with a deep gutter whilst turning hard, and doing it all too fast - I'd just had it all raised 10mm and thought I would get away with it.
