Engine stutter at 30 mph when decelerating?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Help! Just had my VR6 serviced, I'd noticed a stutter when driving and the auto box changed around 30-35 mph, usually when decelerating and changing down, resulting in a juddering and loss of power unless I put my foot to the floor.

Post-service, the car still has the stutter, anyone had this before and recognise the problem?

Cheers for any tips

Duncs

What I am mostly noticing is a real engine judder when the car gets to about 35 mph either accelerating or decelerating when in D(rive). At any other speed it runs fine. At idle, the engine ticks over fine but every now and then seems to throb quite noticeably, making it run lumpy, almost sounding like it's about to pack in. Could this be related to the ignition pack? :|

Start wif the basics,

1/Check that all plugs are screwed in tight (Better still, check that the plugs have been changed! Both have been known to happen!) :((

2/Check all plug leads are connected properly, check condition inside the lead head, could be that the lead terminal has been crushed or is slack. Dry off in the oven or piping hot radiator until the leads are very hot to touch, NOT MELTED! Then, spray liberally with WD40 all over and allow to dry and reinstall.

3/ Remove Coilpack and dry in same manner, checking for cracks as you go, have a look with a magnifying glass it helps , then spray again with WD40 and allow to dry and reinstall.

4/ Check for vacuum leaks or splits, make sur the plug for MAF is home tight, could be left loose during service. and in General have a good look around.

Try all the above and see how you get on. :P
