MrBen 0 Posted January 8, 2006 Report Share Posted January 8, 2006 Trouble is, it will look odd unless you do swap the back to mk3.5 cabby bumper etc, which requires a bit more work. This was one of the best conversions - Brad at 1552 Design's demo car some years ago:There was a thread on VWVortex detailing somebody doing the rear end work, but I can't find it just now. antera309 3 Posted February 1, 2006 Report Share Posted February 1, 2006 Golf "Mk3.5" cabriolets were the Golf Cabriolets made 1998-2002 (Late S-reg onwards). They use a normal Mk3 cabrio chassis with front and rear body panels re-styled to make it look like a mk4, hence the "mk three and a half" name.The "Mk3.5" cabriolet:You can see it's a mk3 by the swage line along the side, which the mk4 does not have.Because the Mk3 and Mk3 Cabriolet chassis are (almost)identical forward of the front doors, all of the Mk3.5 front panels will fit a Mk3. You need:- Front slam panel/rad carrier- Front wings- Front bumper/grille- Bonnet- Headlights- Bonnet catch & other small fixings (which you will get free with the above parts if it's from a breakers)All the parts will bolt straight on. The only problem is with the front wings. On the Mk3 Cabrio, the bottom rear edge of the front wing stops at the top of the sill. On the Mk3, it continues down to the base of the sill. So, when fitting a mk3.5 cabrio wing on a mk3, there will be a 2-3" gap at the bottom.To get around this, you can either weld the bottom bit of a normal mk3 wing onto the mk3.5 cabrio wing, or cover the gap with an aftermarket side skirt.For the back of the car, you can fit a mk3.5 cabrio rear bumper if you wish,but some modification to the bumper is required. Alternatively, you can have your standard bumper smoothed and restyled to match the front. Link to post Share on other sites
