Which of the two is the better handling car - Golf VR6 or Vento VR6?

Hello people.

Just though id post a new thread on the above!

I drove my mates VR6 Highline yesterday for the first time, and i was shocked to see how different it was from my Vento!

First i thought it was slighly more powerful than mine - a good thing!

But i was disappointed about the overall handlingand braking of the golf.

It seemed to take longer braking, and the steering was alot heavier, even though its got 16" bbs' on it.

Ive had a Mk2 Golf GTI, so i know how golfs handle in general!

Personally i think the Vento handles alot better because its longer!

If you think the Corrado is the worst car for handling out of the Rad, Golf and Vento, I have to ask what in God's name you were doing with the Corrado?

I'm not a huge Corrado fan but they're one of the best handling front wheel drive cars about.

Between a Golf and a Vento, I'd say the Golf. Never driven a Vento, but I used to tool about in an old Seat Toledo of the same age which looks pretty much the same car, and almost killed myself a few times in situations where my Golf would've been well under control.

It's all relative though, you need to compare like for like, ie, same suspension set up, same tyres, wheel size, tyre pressures, camber set up, etc.

so where do you check handling on the straights and have you driven every variant ov vr6 bacause i have and do so reguarly its my job and im just giving my opinion mate after driving many vrs

Chill winston!! I agree though, corrados handle brilliantly as a 4 cylinder lump but 6 cylinder handling on 'rado's are different. However, in defence of the mk2, mine handles superbly round bends (then again, i have done my upper and lower anti-roll bars, etc!!)

I've owned a Golf VR6 and 2 Corrado VR6s and can say, imo, the handling in the Corrado is way above that of the Golf. Its not just a biased opinion because I have one, there are many things about the Golf that are better but the handling is not one of them. I put it down to the lower centre of gravity of the Corrado. How can the the same engine cause a car with a higher centre of gravity to handle better? The Corrado is famed for its handling, the best of its era and certainly well up there by todays standards, though obviously superceded by recent offerings with independant rear suspension etc. When was the golf ever acclaimed for its out of the ordinary handling? Its taller and heavier and has a higher centre of gravity.

agree with that, my buddys corrado g60 out handles my vr6 every time! cant touch straight line grunt though! (although close!) best way to check handling would not be on a roundabout imo! country lanes, nice bit of b road blatting, roundabouts are made man shite, and any "regular" roundabout racer can accomplish that, no skill is involved as the line is made for you!!, get out in the sticks were you have to 100% concentrate, and the road changes in a second, thats were you test handling and you own skill imo, even identical cars handle differently and its down to how the driver percieves this as much as what car or set up its running.

well i own a golf have never driven a rado so can't comment and only driven a fcuked old jetta.

my golf has the usual shocks springs combo and handles ok but lift off oversteer and tramlining under breaking can be scary. even after 6 months i still don't always know hat the car is going to do.

although i had more balls than an R32 owner i nearly showed up recently got the shock of his life when i got level with him just after a 90 corner!!

I'm on my secone Vento VR6 and can say from experience that they benefit from shorter, stiffer springs. I've driven plenty of MK3 Golfs but none were VR6's so I can't comment.

Oh, and Slim, I used to sell Seats and the Toledo is NOTHING like a Vento!!

The corrado handles so much better than the golf in every way. The 16v models and g60 are better balanced than the VR6, but VR6 obviously has more power and torque on tap to pull you out of the bends. It is more responsive and nimble being slightly lighter than the golf and gets better weight transfer on sharp corners. However, standard the golf handling is pretty shocking, but when lowered it is greatley improved and i am really impressed with how chcukable mine actaully is and how predictable it is.

As for roundabouts, you cannot expect a car with a v6 up front in a shell that wieghs about 1200kg to handle like a go kart.

I have never seen a vento vr6 or know anyone that has one so cannot comment on the handling on them! :)
