wilko-vr6 0
well i replaced my coolant sensor to the ecu and wondered how to reset the ecu.is it something that can be done easily?
ebmurray 0
Try, diconnecting the battery from the earth side for 5mins. Reconnect and turn on the ignition for 1min. Start the engine and let idle for 30sec, then drive. Revs will then be reset and the ECU will record new.

patrick green 0
Mine idles at about 500rpm & I think thats about normal. Do a search under 'ECU' because I remember at least one thread where this was discussed in depth
VR6Steve 0
Think it should be about 660rpm

wilko-vr6 0
so come on guys any pointers what i should be looking to get my car to tick over higher????
FishWick 21
680 is the official factory set speed. Either someone has been fiddling about with the throttle stop or you're running seriously lean or rich at idle.
andy 0
My tickover was about the 500 rpm mark the other week, distinctly lower than normal, I cleaned my idle stabilisation valve and that cured it instantly. Only problem is the sponge within the sound deadner next to the valve had disintegrated and deposited it self in the pipes around the valve, in the valve etc. Its taken me about three attempts to clear out every bit of sponge but believe me it can totally screw your idle speed and stability up. It made mine idle slowly one day, fast the next and freakiest of all it sounded like someone was in it revving it up and down at idle on the last occasion. Every time I have taken it apart I have found a piece of oily sponge somewhere in that area, it runs fine straight after, anyway new deadner on the way now! Well worth checking. wilko-vr6 0
what did you use to clean it with????mines coming off tomorrow!!!!!!
andy 0
used spray gunk from Halfords, the valve was just a bit oily and sticking, any degreasant would probably do it, check yr pipes to and from it for blockages, worth checking to see if there is anything left in the sound deadner, otherwise it may have come out and bunged other bits
