VR6Pete 1,455
I'll start off by sighing, because I thought I wouldnt want to strap a charger onto the VR.... Well, lukily, I've had a chance of heart..However, I recently purchased a set of Schrick 268 degree Cams, I've seen that these can be ran with a supercharger, however it's not ideal and alot of remapping, ECU tweaking is required. Can anyone shead any more information on this? Ideally, I dont want to be shelling out another 500 + on a set of cams suited for a charger if i can help it. (unless anyone would like to take these cams off my hands for a resonable offer).Pete
apd 0
though the 248s were the best thing for a s/c vr.when the shrick gives up the cams start cooking, although the charger starts to boost at 2k all way up to redline in unison with previously mentioned mods.see vince for a deal on part ex of your 268s? mattverth 0
I'd make a reasonable offer come June. HANG ON TIL THEN!
matth76 1
How much do you want for the cams? I don't have a Shrick inlet manifold (I only have a stock one) but I assume they will still fit my car?How many hours labour is it for a decent garage to fit a set of cams? VR6Pete 1,455
About an hour i'd imagine, they will work fine with a stock engine, however they are ideal for the schrick VGI. June sounds about ok, as I've just bought a gearbox to get tweaked by Vince
J5KE F 0
Hi Pete, I have had 268's with my charged vr, they have been removed this year, but i have kept the vsr and n2o. I have gone back to standerd cams as every 1 suggested they werent right for the charged lump. am booked in at stealth friday, so will let u know.
antera309 3
You could always run your stock cams with the supercharger. The 268 cams will fetch good money second-hand.
matth76 1
I'm also after a set of 268 shricks...
dubloke 4
248's are the way to go for forced induction afaik, the higher profile 268's compliment the higher torque peak on a n/a car but with the vgi you want it coming in lower down, as like you say pete, it becomes a complete nightmare to map as you have different engine components all wanting to produce power at different rpm's. a bit of a nightmare for even vince to get spot on! FishWick 21
The standard cams and fuel pump are the limiting factors at the top end when supercharging.I put a brand new VAG 4 bar pump in mine (and I have a Walbro on standby if it's not enough) and the power drops off at 6100rpm, where it makes 290hp. Vince said that's because of the cams. 6100rpm equates to roughly 7psi as the V9 is geared to make 8psi at 7000rpm (with the supplied pulley), but tbh, I rarely ever go over 6K anyway, so that's fine with me. 248 SCs would enable me to spin it round to 7K and get the extra psi (and possibly pass the 300hp barrier) but 10 or 15hp is neither here nor there when I've got a relaxed 290 at modest revs. Vince sets the limiter to 6800 on his maps anyway. I did ask Vince about putting the 248s in mine and he said it's not worth the money for what they give in return.

delete-me 1
Alot off Wortex user are saying that the DSR 256 cams are the way to go if you have a supercharger. They are abit expencive, but they give up to 18 whp. So they work.http://www.dynospotracing.com/vwdyno.htmIm thinking off getting a set this summer.
