matth76 1
HiI'm seriously thinking about getting an H&R cup kit fitted on my golf vr6. The kit itself costs £340 which is well below the rrp. However I need to know what other parts might be necessary on top of this like camber adjustment bolts or new top mounts...are these required or anything else such as new polybushes?I am visiting Stealth in March so it's likely they may fit it (if they can fit me in on top of my rolling road session) or The Phirm who are local to me. I know the fitting and laser and camber alignment is going to cost around £200+vat... so that's around £550 in total. Do The Phirm have all the right equipment to adjust camber and geometery etc? I need to know if any other costs are involved or any other parts? Thanks for any help.
Matt W 4
No need for camber adjustment bolts as once its on the car and setup you won't adjust the camber. When i did mine i just go new front top mounts and new bolts for the front and rear.As for the Phrim they seem ti be used quite a lot by the guys from the Performance VW mag, so i would imagine the Phirm have all the necessary gear to do the job! RIX 0
when you get they aligment ,go for 1-1.3 negativ camber one the front, youll never regret it
stuey 0
I would consider getting new bumpstops for front and rear if they don't come with any, mine were destroyed after 60k. I had to take it all apart again to replace later! As for the alignment, ask The Phirm if they can do it, they should know
matth76 1
Cheers guys. What's the general opinion on H&R Cup Kits? How will I tell if the kit consists of a complete 'strut' and what does this mean? Do I need new top mounts and bump stops on the rear too, so for all four wheels? Are camber adjustment bolts necessary not necessary then to alter the camber? The kit should lower the car 60mm at the front and 40 at the back... by the way. When stealth do all the geometery etc do they sort the camber etc normally? Has Stealth done anyone's golf here... what did they do regarding the camber?Cheers
stuey 0
You may as well replace the bumpstops front and rear, they aren't much and it's worth doing while the suspension is off. Whoever you get to fit it, ask them about what they recommend for the bumpstops, they may shorten them slightly. The front camber is adjustable as standard, the holes at the bottom of the strut are elongated to allow for this. You will need to have the front camber and tracking checked/adjusted afterwards, i don't think the rear camber/toe is adjustable as standard. I know Stealth can do four wheel alignment, you should give The Phirm a ring and ask them what they can do if you are considering them for the work. Personally i have Koni/Eibach on my car, bad on potholes with 17" wheels, i'm sure there may be better kits out there but i don't have experience of them.
MrBen 0
The Phirm have normal tracking kit but not the super dooper four wheel kit that Stealth have. That said, Tim at the Phirm's methods usually work even if not particularly high-tech!Definitely use new top mounts (proper VAG ones) and it's a good idea to use new bump stops, and new bottom bolts. The bottom bolts always adjust camber on mk3's - you don't need any specific 'camber' bolts, as you do on mk2's.BTW, if you are reasonable with a spanner, it's really not hard to swap the suspension yourself, then just go get it set up. Save you a good bit of cash!
stuey 0
If you are going to give it a go you will need spring clamps, otherwise you could do some serious damage! If you haven't any experience doing this, i would get it done for you, you don't want something going wrong while you are driving !dodge
