Earwig 89
Ok I have abit of a dilemma here and could use a bit of help decideing what to do.I have an RS4 front bumper fitted to my Vr.I also have Mk4 Headlights and crystal fogs/indicators.Both Fogs are cracked !sad My car is going into the bodyshop for work on the bumper. Now I am pretty sure it would not be to hard to relocate my indicators to the headlights. There is a bubble inside the lense which has no bulb in it, just underneath the sidelight. Now although there is no "Proper" way of fitting it I am sure it "Can" be done. Has anyone done this? Can give any tips?Headlights are only 2-3 months old so I do not really want to replace them for ones with built in indicators. Now the reason I want to do this is so that the whole of the front bumper can be filled in and smoothed and the number relocated to one side of the bumper.Or......Should I just get a new set of crystal fogs/inidcators and replace the cracked ones?I really like both looks but think if I had to choose I would go for the smoothed bumper. What would you guys do? antera309 3
As you point out, smoothing the bumper involves fitting headlights with built-in indicators. This, together with the extra work required on the bumper will make it a more expensive option than just replacing your crystal foglight set.but if you really like the smoothed look, then go for it! Earwig 89
I think if my headlights can be cheaply modified to take the indicators, I think I will take the smooth look, but from the sound of your post you think I will need new headlights and not be able to get them modded? If this is the case it will be new fogs as I simply don't have the money to buy new headlights AND all the smoothing. purple highline monster 0
just get a set of darkened original fogs, blanks and indicators, they dont steam up every time you wash it and they look cooool!
dubberVR6 0
The smooth look is pretty cool, but why make the front end look smooth if you're going to completely demolish the lines with the number plate to one side? in my opinion that looks bad ebough on Alfa's, let alone Golfs! I think it was dutch, it was so low to the ground you could barely get your fingers between the ground and the sills !That is where I originally got the idea from I got an M.O.T on friday so I will get them to look at the lights then and see if they can be modded easily. If not then I am just going to buy new fogs to put in.I have still got smoked fogs I think that I took out to put the crystals in, but I just prefer the crystals, they look......Cleaner :-)I will post pics in members rides when it is complete.BTW...Anyone know when the membership section is open again? I want to become a member but it's down for maintenance. Been down ever since I signed up. (
antera309 3
I'm not a fan of offset front plates either. A small (bike size) plate on L brackets at the top of the lower air intake looks damn nice on a smoothed front end, but the fuzz might not like that approach too much. floaty 0
I've done this headlight mod you're talking about and smoothed bumper and i decided to change back to proper indicators and fogs. There isn't a lot of room in the headlights for the indicator bulbs so i used side repeater bulbs but you could hardly see them flashing even at night.I just drilled a hole in the back section and wedged them in.If i were to do the smoothed bumper again i would get something like the In-pro headlights with the proper indicators in them and just remove the orange filters.Personally i prefer to just smooth out the lines and plate recess and keep the fog/indicator units. Here's a pic of the old girl on the left
Earwig 89
Nice floaty.Really does look nice.....Makes me want to do it even more !I have nothing to lose I suppose by trying to mod the headlights, and IF I can do it with regualar indicator bulbs then I am going to take the smoothed look. Your pic has made me want it even more !!If I fail then I have not lost anything and I just buy new fogs.....:-)
vdubgirl 3
I'm Biased but I say keep the fogs and indicators I made the same decision with mine but i'm very glad I kept mine in now!
Seademon 0
Im glad I lost my fogs & indicators - usedto really annoy me they fogged up!
VR6Lee 1
Agree with Seademon get rid mate 8) Move forwardDon't get alot of fog any way and they totally uncool when they on.Best fog positioning is the Ford XR2i, make it look larger than it is a nite and aggressive.Love the idea for wot andy/floaty done with the number plate cool. Slim 0
Keep the number plate where it should be, just shorten the recess if you have a short plate, that's what I'm doing when my car goes into the bodyshop later this month, along with getting the grooves filled and smoothed. There's no easy way of getting the indicators into the headlights so I'm not going to bother smoothing over the fog/indicator areas, plus if you ever break down, I'm guessing you won't have access to your tow eye. jezmoz 0
Im glad I lost my fogs & indicators - usedto really annoy me they fogged up! DommyVR6 0
hey seademon are those the lower air intakes with fog lights in them on your vr if so where did ya get them from?
Seademon 0
They only fogged up a bit after being washed cos of the hot water - they didnt just fog up like most of them do, depends on where abouts the cars parked too - mines always parked in the drive & wont get affected by as much moisture etc compared to a car thats parked on a road and what not Dommy - No there Bonrath air intakes and the silver part that you can see is my cold air intake for the air filter. Earwig 89
Well money matter has forced me into keeping the fogs for now....Got some more on the way £39 so not to bad.I just don't have the money to buy a new set of headlights with indicators and have all the smoothing work done aswell.I am having the tailgate smoothed though so the next step after that will be some new headlights and then the bumper again hehehe, hopefully the girlfriend will have forgotten about me spending all this money by then.... Hahaha
jezmoz 0
If you dfo get steaming /fogging, dry the light out on a radiator, and smear clear silcione locktite (from halfords) around the seal, let dry and no more steaming
