bazz780 0
on my first VR this happened to me, part cost 20 odd quid from euro car parts but cost me 70 quid in labour as they need a special tool to remove the barrell and steering has to come off as well, as the airbag was involved as well, i left it to the experts. kilokilla 0
right first of disconnect battery so as not to accidently set off airbag ,then undo 2 allen bolts on back of steering wheel im pretty sure they are 6mm allen bolts you will see the 2 holes they are located in if you look at back of steering wheel then airbag will pop off you just need to pull plug out of back of airbag then its out of way ,then its a 24mm nut to undo steering wheel and pull it off then undo the 3 screws holding the stalks on and carefully unplug them and remove them ,then there is another 6mm allen bolt holding the barrel on but like bazz said you need a special puller to get the steering wheel collar off of column but if you undo the 13mm bolt on bottom of steering column you can just slide the whole steering shaft out and then you just need a little phillips screwdriver to replace ignition module and then put it all back together in opposite order. if you are anywhere near stoke on trent i can do job for you for £25.if you already have new module. kilokilla 0
on the bottom of the column there is a 13mm nut and bolt undo that and take the bolt out then you can pull the whole steering column straight out of its housing with the ignition barrel attached then with a little phillips screwdriver you can just about undo ignition switch and replace it while it is still attached to the shaft. billy45 0
i have done that but its still the same so i think its the actual key part that is faulty but i have now packed the bit between module and barrel with some kfc wrapper and it works at the mo if it messes up again will have to go and get it sorted at vw i think chers for all your helpbilly
