ODB1 ODB2 whats the differance

can you help me may sound stupid but how can you tell the differance between the 2 engines im looking to buy a bigger throttle body and have found one on ebay but will only fit obd1 i have a 97 highline golf thanks

You have an ODB2 engine.

i`d be interested to know if an obd1 with a big t.b and map

has the same or more power than a obd2 with just the map??

OBD2 has a larger throttle body anyway. Been told by Stealth that an OBD2 with a 2.9 rebore has alot more low down torque than a 2.9 corrado. Apparently VW screwed around with the inlet on the Rado to make the HPa higher rpm.

Not as good a combination so I've heard. But obviously slightly more powerful due to the increase in capacity none the less.

Nope, OBD2 has a smaller throttle plate and a ramp, which speeds up gas flow. It's how the OBD2 get it's better response in the midrange. The OBD2 management is a lot better also.

2.8 vr6 engines are all aaa engine codes regardless of whether its obd1 or obd2.

so how do you tell weather its an ob1 or ob2

i bought a k reg golf vr6 which had an engine in it which tsr had fitted.

is a 2.9 with gas flowed head. I knew i needed an engine code to buy bits and when i found AAA stamped on it thats what i thort it was.
