squealing noise coming from the drivers side of the engine any help ?

I have noticed that i have got a squealing noise coming from the drivers side of the engine however it is only on low revs upto maybe 2500 rpm after that you dont really hear it could it be the alternator belt or something else any ideas ????

My car is

1996 VR6 HIGHLINE WITH AIR CON

I had the same thing last summer and it was the belt tensioner bearing that had gone. When i revved mine to see what it was loads of smoke came from the engine bay but it turned out it was just the untensioned belt slipping and on the pullies and burning the rubber off it.

If you've just changed the belt it should be good to go back on, as long as it's not warped from running on knacked pullies. as I mentioned mine was burning rubber off it so had to get a new one, as for the water pump if you have the money it may worth getting it done at the same time if it's getting old. I didn't get it done as my water pump is fairly new!
