Few questions from a complete novice

Hi all

Please go easy on me! I'm new and know absolutely nothing about the workings of a car. Kind of part of the reason I joined this fine forum, to learn some stuff myself.

So with my excuses out of the way, a couple of questions!

My VR6 has started to show signs of a very slight misfire around 2-2,500 rpms. It is hardly noticeable, and only when I keep the car within that range. Accelerating through the gears everything feels absolutely fine.

The exhaust has also started to get a bit smelly when I first start. I've never noticed this before, could the two be linked?

Other question, and quite an embarrassing one this.

I had the ECU remapped about 6 months ago and was given the dynoplot results, but I am a bit clueless as to how to interpret the torque figure.

I've seen some people here have their bhp and torque in their sigs. According to the dynoplot my bhp is 199.7 and max torque is 196.7. Comparing the torque to a few people here it seems a little higher than others with comparable or higher bhp? Is this right?

sounds like a very healthy torque figure does it say at what revs u get peak torque/bhp i think power should peak at around 5800-6000 revs torque should peak lower i think

It says:

BHP 199.7 @ 5691 (107 mph in gear used)

Torque 196.7 @ 4282 (80mph in gear used)

Ah the good old 2.5K hunting. You're not alone there my friend. Given your dyno figures, which are extremely good, I'd learn to live with it.

The reason I say that is because I have a very healthy VR6 myself, a Corrado in fact, and I have replaced just about everything you can on it, new head, MAF, idle valve, all sensors, chains etc and I also recently put an AMD remapped ECU in and it still does as yours does at 2.5K.

I've learnt to drive round it and have accepted it's probably never going to get sorted during the car's stint with me.

Given the rest of the rev-range is superbly torquey, smooth and VERY quick, I can accept it.

Not an answer to your issue I'm afraid, but if you do find a cure, please let me know what it was!!!

I have to say I never actually noticed it until I took it to a local VW specialist for a service and he said "do you know you have a misfire?". If he hadn't told me I probably would never have noticed!

Its great ain't it, they tell you it has a misfire, did they do anything to try and sort it, work out what the problem was, no. Well thank you very much mister specialist

from my recent misfiring events, it could be your (oxygen) lamda sensor just before or on the cat, it could also be the cat itself. U were complaining of bad smells? usually something to do with the cat and also check your maf as well as the usual plugs and leads. I'm no expert either so don't go changing everything!!
