Ciaran 4
coilpack or leads start the car at night pop the bonnet and check for arching u will soon notice
6potmkII 0
best thing is diagnostics test so you dont go wasting your money on things you dont need, but, imo if youve changed the plugs and leads, my next move would be afm. also could be coilpack or hall sensor.i just got rid of my misfire at low revs, it was the afm
Crozo 0
Thanks for the advice but without sounding thick what is afm and am best off going to my local VW garage for a diagnostics
Petesvw 0
Most independant garages now have diagnostics, wouldn't go straight to VW unless you have £££ to burn! No one in your area on here with VAG.com?
Peakz 0
Crozo, I've been having a similar intermittant fault . . . So far I've replaced Coilpack (had a crack in it), ignition leads and platinum plugs to no avail.I then replaced the ECU relay (#109) and the fuel pump relay (#679 I think) which came to £31 and so far it hasn't played up all week.Another part to this is that sometimes the car willnot start, it cranks perfectly well for ages but takes a few attempts before it starts but as I mentioned above, I've not had a problem since replacing the relays. mightyvr6 0
Crank sensor on its way out? You really need to get it on vag-com/vw diagmostics if you can't find the problem, having searched for other possible causes.
Crozo 0
hello all i have now had the car put on to a diagmostic computer and there are no folt coads to sugest a problem with missfiring ? :-( and the misfiring is now happening more and more often. if any one has any ideas it would be grate,
ian 182 0
If you know someone with an independant garage they may help.My mate has the latest "snap-on" diagnostic stuff and when he done mine it took it through something like 100+causes and fixes before it came up clean.Might be cheaper than VW doing itian
gav_113 0
i had a similar prob once, my leads were arching out, so i got some new ones and a new cap. fitted the whole lot, and drove down the road and it was missing all the time. i noticed that the cap was arching out on the head? turned out that the electrode thinging which contacts the rotor arm had completely broken up. so maybe check inside cap m8. clarkie 1
spend a bit of time checking all the wires on the main wireing loom plug as i had a wire broke there on mine . that mad it misfire and was even worse in reverse. also check all the wires that go to the mass air flow sensor and all the other wires. its worth it before you go forking out loads of cash. dstyrrell 0
are you certain its a misfire?, i had a dirty throttle body and it had the same symptoms aparently vr's are prone to this. mate took mine off and gave it a major clean and problemo solved, i was fearing the worst also as mine was stalling at junctions and not starting and spluttering sounds like you've got the same prob mate.
