dubberVR6 0
I've recently fitted some FK's and they seem to make a clattering sound when going over bumps in the road. Is this normal for coilovers? Or do I need to take them off and rebuild? The noise can be heard quite distictivley from outside the car too!Any help would be great! Cheers!!
JohnP 0
I've had AVO coilovers on my wifes VR6, and these also made a knocking sound when going over bumps. I found out that the noise was comming from within the shock. I've got AVO's coilovers on my Escort Cosworth, and have the same noise.
dubberVR6 0
Thanks. It seems to get worse when there is less weight on the car. I might take them off again anyway just to make sure they are built correct.
Russ_vr6 12
mines got avo coilovers and mine does the same mate lol,but im about to change my top mounts as they seem to eat them so worth checkin
dubberVR6 0
Jacked it up today, and there is about 10mm of play when lifting the wheel. The strut moves up 10mm too. I'm pretty sure its not supposed to do this!
jb9999 0
I had this problem with a Jamex kit I had mate. Even when the top mounting nut was tightened as far as it would go, it still didn't pull the strut up tight with the strut top mount, so rattled its bollocks off on uneven roads. Can you turn the top mounting cup freely when the car is parked up? or does it feel tight. I had to use washers under the top nut to take up the free play it had and get the strut up against the top mount. Shit really, you shouldn't have to piss about like that to get the struts to fit properly, assuming they are new. Cack engineering.Forgot to ask before I started ranting, is it all four shocks or just the front ones? Mine was just the front.
JohnP 0
Jimbo99, now there's an excellent idea. I've never checked that on the AVO’s. Oh well, never mind, as I’m busy fitting a Bilstein B12 tuning kit, and the Avo’s are in the trash.
jb9999 0
Necessity is the mother of Invention (i) I had Bilstein gas dampers on my mk2 and they were excellent. The jury is still out on the vr. Loads of good feedback for the G-Max kit, so I'm a bit torn between the G-Max and the more expensive Koni's? Decisions, decisions!
dubberVR6 0
They are brand new FK konigsport silverline x ones. It seems to be only the front two. I can't beleive that there would be a bad gap like that as standard. More likely the way they were built up before they went on!
jb9999 0
Were they built up ready to fit when you bought them, or was there some sub-assembley required? You are right mate, there should not be any play on the strut when it is jacked up.Not between the strut and the top mount anyway.
