Geastb 0
I've had my s/c car for about a month now - it don't seem to go as well as it did when i got it - the boost still goes to 6psi but it seems underpowered. Had a race with a saxo VTR and only just beat it! Just about kept up with a clio v6. Am i just getting used to the power or is there anything i should check? Any suggestions on how to get more power out of her gratefully received! Going to go for water injection next then 8psi pully? Anything else i can do?
wayne_1@tiscali.co.uk 27
injectors 310 reds and see if it needs to be mapped
mightyvr6 0
Geastb, what size pulley have you got?Edit: I think you have got a 2.87 (10 psi pulley) so you should be making some really good power 290 bhp+ Is the engine stock compression? Sounds like you do have a problem if your only making 6 psi.
Geastb 0
The kit was bought (by previous owner) from C2 - i'll have a look at reciept. I think the compression has been lowered with 25psi spacer gasket but i'll double check
matth76 1
Have you had it on the rolling road? Def get it on there if you haven't to check all the fuelling is right otherwise serious damage could be going unchecked.. such as detonation. A standard VR can easily beat a saxo VTS let alone a the lesser powered VTR (assuming the vtr you raced was standard). A 9:1 or 8:5:1 is a recommended lower compression ratio normally needed to cope with high power on the vr engine.Do you know for sure that the previous owner had a remap after fitting the charger? A rolling road session and VAG COM is the best bet mate to diagnose what is wrong. Try Stealth.
jaysVR6 2
Just put a charger on mine and I have a little problem, but it should be being fixed shortly.Apparently you will be shooting yourself in the foot if you lower the compression on our blocks and only run low-ish boost. As you will need to produce higher boost to compensate for the lower compression, you can up to higher boost safely with lower compression. Thats why a stock block with 6-7psi runs so well.Mines running shite at the mo as when I visited Stealth last Monday I found out to my horror that my timing was out!! Going to be corrected in the next two weeks but is producing a safe 210bhp at the moment. You deffo have a problem if your struggling to paste a VTR in a charged VR, my 2.9 block with the timing out and not charged stayed with SL530!Get it looked at mate, the last thing you want to be doing is damaging the engine. Do you have standard injectors? With a charger and standard injectors they need to be run at almost 100% when the rpms are high, just be careful they aren't packing up and your cars running lean. Lean means no pistons in the end!!!
Nerih 0
check for boost leaks m8, check the belt is tight - no belt slip.get it in vagcom and diagnosed.
Geastb 0
Cheers guys - I'll get it down to stealth - hopefully its something simple!
Dubsingh 0
mines a rat at the moment...its pops like a bitch and does not seem to be givin the ight power....saving reddies to pay vince a vist and get it sorted
FishWick 21
Don't forget this warmer weather isn't doing us any favours. You can easily lose 30hp when the charger is really hot, especially when sucking in hot summer air.
Geastb 0
I got the boost wrong - goes up to 10psi when 5000+ revs! does seem much quicker when cold weather about! def look into red injectors rho - want to get 300+ bhp if i can! all help gratefully recieved! mightyvr6 0
The kit you have should come with redtops surely? 8-10 psi uses redtops then 10 psi+ uses greentop injectors.
Geastb 0
I've no idea wot i've got - i'll have a look thru the invoices!
mightyvr6 0
Just have a look at the injectors (you can see the inj. for no.2 cylinder if you look at the front left of the inlet manifold) If it has a brown top its a standard injector.
