JohnP 0
I bought some 288 mm discs sometime ago, not checking what I have fitted, and have now come to fit them. Unfortunately my VR6 has 280 mm discs fitted, so the 288 mm won’t fit.So what are my options?I can try and force them in by machining the inside of the calipers down by 4 mm, and widening the brake pad holders by 2 mm either side. I’ll also have to machine the top of the brake pad holder out by 4mm. This seems like a lot of effort, and I may weaken the whole front end braking system. I’m not really keen on this approach.Or can I fit the 288 mm caliper system to my front end? Will it fit, or can I fit something more substantial, like something off a later/newer Golf?I’ve got 17inch rims fitted at present.Any help, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.ThanksJohn
mightyvr6 0
Just buy some 288 calipers and carriers off ebay. I picked up some 288 calipers, carriers, pads, hoses and disks for £45. The 288s just bolt straight on but the hoses are different than 280 hoses as they have a banjo fitting on the caliper end.
DaveStorm 0
I'd consider going up to 312s if you're running 17s, although they will cost a bit more.
JohnP 0
Do the 288 calipers use the same brake pad, or is this bigger as well?
andy 0
Do the 288 calipers use the same brake pad' date=' or is this bigger as well?[/quote']The pads are bigger too. Bigger caliper, bigger pad, more surface area.
JohnP 0
Thanks for the info. As I already have new 288 mm Tarox discs, I'll get the bigger calipers.CheersJohn
