spindat45 0
Thanks for the comments mate. It's taken a while to get it looking like it doeas (just over 3 years) but as you know once you start you can't stop. I haven't had it mapped properly due to a missfire caused by a sticking valve diagnosed by Vince at Stealth! I've got a ported and polished head ready to go on and possibly a lightened flywheel. I'm hoping for somewhere around 260 brake once the head is changed and I take it back to Vince to have it mapped. Do you have a de-cat on yours?Stage 2, hmm.......... A year ago I wasn't even interested in a charger and just over three years ago I wasn't interested in owning a VR6 so who knows. (I blame Sparkz) The charger and engine came up at the right price at the right time so for now I'm happy to get as much as I can from this set-up and enjoy driving it. Looks as though you and Jim did a great job on yours. Maybe we'll get to do a couple of runs together at the pod this year Sparkz found that site last year but we had to translate it. I see they've got an english version now which makes life easier. What did you get from them for yours?Kevin
Ben Seabrook 4
Yeah I havent touched the bodywork on mine yet but am just starting to look at a few bits but as you say I know i am starting down a long and expensive road there !!!!Nope I dont have a decat on mine - yet !!! so yeah you should defo make around the 260 mark no probs. Thought I would be happy with stage 1 but after running it for a few months I am getting itchy feet again and for the sake of a couple of pulleys its not that much more to go to stage 2 I just bought a couple of new pulleys as the bearings had gone on the old one - got a very helpful contact there now who speaks perfect english and answers email very quickly - will give u a quote for whatever u are after.Yeah Jim is a top man and no way could I have done it without him - what that man doesn't know about cable ties just isn't worth knowing you knows I am only joking Jim mate !! spindat45 0
And I really want one of these from them which they have just designed also for the VR6 -mmmm shiny (h) (h) I saw that on there and thought "if only they made one for a VR" Did you get a price off them? If you're interested in a de-cat let me know. I got mine from a company on Flea bay for a good price. worth the money imo. You might need red top injectors to get the most out of a stage 2 set up and the increase in power will need a bit more fuel

I bought the red top injectors but put a Begi on instead and that seems to be working well so far but as you say it might change with a bit more power

spindat45 0
Time for a little update folks....The following has now been fitted to the car:Heater matrixTiming chains, guides & tensionersSachs clutch kit6 branch manifoldPorted and polished head with new valve guides and sealsMetal head gasketLightened flywheelEibach front ARB (rear to be fitted shortly)Drop linksNeuspeed low temp thermostatReconditioned gearbox with Redline MT90 oilStill to be done:Eibach rear ARB312 brake conversionRe mapI took it for a drive last night for the first time in almost 4 months and WOW! It's a different beast altogether. It handles so much better due to the front ARB. Point it where you want it to go and it goes with hardly any body roll. Acceleration is so much better low down and smoother thanks in part to the lightened flywheel and ported/polished head imo. The missfire which had been narrowed down to a sticking valve has gone also which was definately holding it back below 2000 rpm. It sounds awesome with the 6 branch, de cat and the Miltek exhaust. A few more bits to be fitted then its off to be mapped. 8-) Currently running on a generic stage 1 chip so not at its full potential but having driven it, I'm hoping for some decent figures ones it mapped and gets on the rollers. I can also think about my first ever 1/4 mile.....I'll get some pics of the rebuild up soon but from the outside the engine looks much the same.I've got to give all of the credit for these mods to my cousin Sparkz. Especially for changing the heater matrix that in the end didn't need changing. (A pig of a job imo). It's taken a lot longer than we'd planned for but after driving it last night, it's been well worth the wait! Thanks also to JP for the head and flywheel work as well as the polishing. Nearly forgot to mention Mark who fitted the chains made sure everything was timed up correctly. My name is Kevin and I'm a VR6 addict......

VR6Pete 1,455
Hi Kev,regarding Neuspeed low temp thermostat, I've been reading up about these on the-corrado forum, and they have recommened against installing one. reason being, as the thermostat leaves the ECU running in 'cold mode' for longer, and uses more petrol than it would usually do on a standard thermostat.Pete
spindat45 0
Thanks for that Pete. The first I heard of it was reading the same post on there as you. I can see why it might cause the car to take a little longer to warm up hence the cold mode. I wonder if the OBD1/OBD2 differences could have some bearing on this? Since fitting my charger I always flick past the MPG reading on my MFA as quick as poss and keep it on oil temp. Out of sight out of mind :-d I'd be happy to sacrifice a little more fuel (VR's not being the most fuel efficient motors) when warming up compared to the longer term damage and cost that could be caused by higher water/oil temps. Would be interesting to find out what folks on here who have one fitted think or if they've had any such issues....

spindat45 0
A few pics from my trip to SLS Tuning http://www.slstuning.de/eng/uberuns/leistungen/index.php in Germany for a re-map (Road trip thread here http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?315466.0)I got the 250 bhp I'd been expecting from my basic stage 1 setup 8-). It drives so much better and is much more fuel efficient which I wasn't expecting. Still need to move the MAF and sort out a little bit of belt slip but all in good time.
