Does this sound right?

Car is going in on Thursday for a new crank-sensor fitting after this fault was found via diagnostics. I know the guy doing the work, and know he wouldn't rip me off. After doing a search on here though I just don't feel as confident in the diagnosis. Car starts first time every time, even after stalling. When pulling up at junctions, or even just changing down a gear, revs seem to drop really quickly, and drop so far down that the engine stalls. At first this happened maybe once a week, but now might happen 5 or 6 times a day! If crank sensor was faulty would car start at all?Does this sound more like cam-sensor? I have also read about people wasting money cause the car had faults read with engine off, although I don't know if this was done. If anyone has had any similar experiences I would appreciate any guidance, cheers...... *-) P.S car is a 1994 vr6
