Golf VR6 - How many miles to a tank of juice?

Recommended Posts

In the last couple of weeks I've bought a '97 VR6 Highline and I'm trying to work out the fuel consumption. The problem is I haven't been able to use a tank of fuel without putting my foot down lots (plus I've been using the aircon a little bit). :$

My trip computer varies, but I have seen 30 mpg on motor way journeys. The thing is I have just been made redundant and I'm looking at a job possibly in Southampton which is about 40 miles away.. so I'm trying to work out if the VR6 is going to make it a bit unrealistic.

So how many miles should I expect to a full tank of petrol without using aircon and sensible driving? What is it, a 50 litre tank? I think it's cost me just under £50 to fill it up (depending on which station I get my super unleaded from).

If you can tell me how many miles you get from an average tank I'd be grateful!

Thanks

Mark

tbh 30 mpg is about right on a motorway journey obviously depending on how you drive. going very carefully i have seen 38 mpg in mine but this A) requires immence concentration and B) gets a very boring after a while.

Its good fun trying to get the mpg up!!! Very exciting and also very frustrating cos you know every time someone pulls out in front of you or you catch the lights the mpg gonna drop again!!! Keep in fifth and be gentle and you should be able to keep it over 30mpg. Not a lot worse than my 2.0 Laguna, used to get 33mpg in that.

I average about 300-320 miles to a full tank if I let it run completely empty. Although I only fill up when it is about to hit the red zone. Not good at all to keep it in the red too often.

My mpg averages about 32 mpg and I drive it normally, bit of fast driving and taking it easy to work in traffic etc. during the week. I don't go over 70mph when I commute to work down the dual carriage way during the week. No point at all (unless I'm late). But I have fun with it at the weekend when I do drive it hard when its all too easy to hit 3 figures without realising!
