MarkP 0
I've recently got myself a lovely VR6 highline completely standard along with the standard wooden gear knob (NASTY!). I really fancy a momo to replace it. I thought I'd take a quick look today and so I unscrewed the offending gear knob and pulled it and I could feel it come off of the stick underneath, but it seems to be completely attached to the gaiter which is also fixed in position. Do I need to remove the whole unit i.e. gaiter, plastic surround and knob in one piece (however that's done) and get a new gaiter etc. Sorry if this is a silly question but I have had nasty experiences of breaking bits of interior in the past with different cars and I'd rather ask the questions first and make a tit of myself than accidentally break something.Help much appreciated!Mark
vr6madmike 0
My gaiter is just a sort of elastic thing that sits around the plastic base, just pull it up over the lip, dunno if its different on the highlines...
MarkP 0
The highline one is attached to the gear knob and I've pulled it etc but it doesn't seem to want to seperate from the gaiter. I just don't want to break it. :^) ThanksMark
blackmagic 0
Pull the gaitor base black rectangular plastic bit upwards carefully and pull it up and over the gear knob you will see the gaitor is held in place with a plastic ring if my memory serves me right , remove this and separate the gaitor from the knob. Hope this helps

MarkP 0
Well I ventured out there flat head screwdriver in hand and managed to unclip the gaiter and found the small disc holding it in place which I have now removed and the gaiter and gear knob are no longer joined. I'm hoping to get a momo gear knob shortly so I guess I'll screw that one on and then try and put the black disc back in place with a zippy tie underneath it or something perhaps to hold it in place to try and make sure the gaiter meets the gear knob, rather than having a giant space between them. Fingers crossed that will work. What have other people done about the gaiter gap when replacing their gear knobs? Or does it not bother anyone else? Many thanksMark
Earwig 89
I have a Momo Knob fitted and you should still have the Circle disc attached to the gear gaitor? If so once the Knob is fitted put the circular disc right up against the underside of the Knob and turn the giator inside out. With the giator inside out put plenty of tape around the gear shaft making sure that the disc stays tight to the underside of the knob. When you have enough tape round the shaft the disc will become secure against the underside of the knob. At this point pull the gaiter in the right way and place back into position.Should look like you never been messing with it :-)Sorry for all the talk of Knobs and Shafts :-)Mark. Thanks for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it!Mark

I know that it was in reality quite straightforward, but I'd prefer to ask than the go at it myself incorrectly and break something I might need later on.Many thanksMark
