Guy 1 Posted June 10, 2006 Report Share Posted June 10, 2006 ok so how do i check out the auxillary water pump then ?It doesnt come on when you put the ignition on and it doesnt stay on after either.Any easy checks i could do ? or is it just take it off and inspect it ? If it's knacked then bin and replace ?Do they have their own relay ? if so which one .I've checked all the fuses and theyre all good.It's been like it for 18 months now with no detrimental effects or so it would seem. fritzenberg 3 Posted June 10, 2006 Report Share Posted June 10, 2006 if you turn the ignition key half way `till the electrics come on,but don`t start engine,open the bonnet and you should hear a buzzing sound coming from the right hand side of the engine,that`s motor in the pump working.so,no buzzing sound = burt out pump.hope this is helps. SankysVR6 1 Posted June 10, 2006 Report Share Posted June 10, 2006 Check for the voltage on the plug that goes to the Aux water pump when the ignition lights are on. If the 12V is there and there is no humming sound when the cable is connected the pumps burnt out. Link to post Share on other sites

Guy 1 Posted June 11, 2006 Author Report Share Posted June 11, 2006 Well, after checking it out earlier there is the correct voltage to the pump and the pump is showing no resistance thus pointing the finger at the motor being burnt out.So it's new pump time.Thanx for the pointers. Guy 1 Posted June 14, 2006 Author Report Share Posted June 14, 2006 Right theres been a little development , I walked into GSF today and bought a new pump.. hurrahGot home let it cool down a bit and whipped off the cover and just out of curiosity plugged it in and it worked a treat so I switched the ignition off to see if it ran on after and it didnt .Are they supposed to ? my bros does.Any reason why it shouldnt run on ? relay ?Any suggestions anyone ? This so that the coolant continues to be circulated around the engine after turning off. Much needed on these babies as they run so hot. When the fans go off so does the aux pump. Its not as easy to hear the aux pump when the fans are going though.Kevin Link to post Share on other sites

Guy 1 Posted June 15, 2006 Author Report Share Posted June 15, 2006 Right... so i got home from work early today and let the car cool down enough to work on.Swapped out the aux water pump and topped up with antifreeze.i let it get up to temp and the fan cut in once or twice and then whist still running switched the car off and the pump wasnt running when i put my hand to it.Surley it should be running for a bit.I reckon there must be a relay for it and its had itIdeas anyoone ?Or can anyone tell me for sure if theirs runs for definate when they stop.thanx in advance. Basically if you turn the ignition lights the aux pump should start pumping, turn the ignition off and the pump should continue running for a futher 10mins or so.Im not sure why yours isn't running once the ignition has turned off, but i will have a look in the Bentley for you and post back Link to post Share on other sites

fredfelcher 0 Posted June 18, 2006 Report Share Posted June 18, 2006 You can check it by jumpering the coolant temp sensor (yellow switch in thermostat housing, in front of coil pack high up on engine block).1 Switch ignition on briefly then off2 Unplug switch and jumper terminals 1 and 33 Fans and pump should run.Terminals: with retaining clip uppermost, looking at terminals, 1 is upper right (brown/red wire at back) and 3 is bottom left (brown wire).Hope this helps - tried to do diagram but stupid forum formatting kept messing it up. Guy 1 Posted June 19, 2006 Author Report Share Posted June 19, 2006 If it's true and they are then let me know and I'll put a few f*cks into gsf and get a refund.Still after shorting the terms the pump and fan both spun up like they should but the pump didnt stay on any longer than the fans.I guess the huge relay on the nsf wing may have a fault but i'm poking in the dark here a bit.
