matth76 1
HiQuestion to those with a stainless 6 branch exhaust manifold.. what does yours sound like at low speed and on idle? Mine sounds quite "tinny" and is audiable if I have the windows down and the car is at idle. I was just wondering what sort of sounds should I look out for if there was a very slight blow? And would power loss be very noticable or hardly noticable (dependent on size of blow)? CheersMatt
vr6 g3 0
I had the same sort of noise with a raceland de-cat pipe when the engine was under load at low revs. Its as if the metal is too thin and it echos through the pipe
FishWick 21
Yeah it's a tinkling kind of noise.....cat converters do it also until they get good and hot. It's usually where the exhaust gases cool down and expand on their way out of the exhaust, particularly inside the cat or the first expansion box. Sure it's not the usual 'pinging' you get from the exhaust on after run? It might be your cat rather than the 6 branch but as said already, stainless is a lot thinner than mild steel tubing. It's stronger than mild, but heavier, so they make the wall thickness thinner. Make it thinner and it loses it's sound absorbing qaulitys....swings and roundabouts.

6potmkII 0
this is exactly how my raceland 6 branch sounds, i initialy thought it was blowing from where it meets the head, but turns out, there is a pea sized hole just before 3 becomes 1. sounds like an american muscle car when cold! will get it welded v.soon
matth76 1
Do you notice any power loss?
6potmkII 0
tbh wid you, i fitted the manifold when i did my mk2 conversion, so couldnt have noticed any differance. it did sound like that from the start so i assume i bought it like that and didnt notice the hole
franchise 1
Are these worth getting, not just raceland but all stainless 6 branches? I'm slowly plotting my future mods and was gonna go schrick but being the cost they are I decided to go 6 branch and stainless system with bmc, less money and more power apparently. Will this be a noisy set up or only when on chat?
Classy6 0
I've read through the archived threads on vortex about headers quite a bit. Apparently they say the stock exhaust manifold is just as good as an aftermarket header. Barely any gains were made, and it wasn't money well spent?Any thoughts on this fellas? matth76 1
You wont get more power than a Shrick al. A Shrick can gain you huge torque. I had a rolling road session and remap before and after I added my 6 branch and BMC and only gained 10 lb/ft torque, and gained no bhp at all. Does make it more free flowing though and easier to rev. However if you had the money try and get a shrick second hand.... should be poss to get one second hand between £500-1000 however they are hard to come by second hand - most people hang on to them! You will need to budget in a remap (£300). Have you done any mods yet Al? If I was going to do my mods again I prob would have just gone for a stainless backbox (I saw only a minimal gain with a full cat back exhaust and high flow cat) to make it sound and look good and BMC and then saved my money for more expensive mods like a Shrick etc... or even better a supercharger.. which can be had second hand for just under a grand too... NS Racing do them. I wouldn't bother with a 6 branch to be honest if I was modding my car again.
franchise 1
Cheers fella. It's cool to get different opinions and saves wasting cash on pointless stuff. So Schrick is the daddy then eh. I currently have a stainless sebring dtm box with a k&n but am getting a bmc in a few weeks, which should help a wee bit. I might stick with the bmc when i get it, get a second hand stainless system and roll with taht until I can get some green for a schrick. We'll see.
