Why does it always have to be so tragic with England, why can't they just lose like a normal team loses without the drama! Really no point in winning it though after Roo went off as if we would fo beat the next team without no decent strikers!

Exactly the point i was gonna make. Some people (prob the Scot's) will make out that it's just sour grapes from losing, but why even leave it open for debate??.....appoint a 'proper' neautral ref and then we'd have no ammunition for arguing!

I mean, the ref was criticising us before the game even started! And WHAT THE F*CK was that all about when he made Carragher retake his peno eh???! :o

Robbed again, as always :@ :@ :@ :@

OK we lost, but Ronaldo is such a wanker :@

I hope Rooney takes up wot Alan Shearer said on the BBC after the game, if fact Rooney do it for all of us that saw that wink from Ronaldo to the bench.

Go on and stick one on Ronaldo at the Manchester training ground.

Any player who tries to get a fellow player booked or sent-off does not really deserve to be called a profesonal sportsman they should be called what they are..CHEATS..

Oh come on, a little perspective here please.

Firstly, England could have, and should have done a lot better if they had a manager who played more positive tactics, and with better team/squad selection. One unfit striker up front on his own = fail.

For starters, what refereeing decisions are you actually complaining about? Argentina is a neutral country, do you think he's holding a grudge over the Falklands or somesuch rubbish? He made Carragher re-take his penalty because it was taken before the referee had a chance to blow his whistle as per the rules.

The Rooney sending off, no arguments there. As for Ronaldo's involvement, he didn't 'wave' the imaginary card to the ref, he saw his team mate get his testicles stamped on and when rushing in giving "come on ref sort it out". If an opposition player did that to a team mate of mine, I'd be right in there too. I've seen plenty of England players badger referees in the same way without waving the card gestures.

Portugal were there for the taking by an attack minded team. Any team that plays with one striker up front doesn't deserve to win anything in football.

Ok :) Wayne was irresponsible for what he did and only he knows if it was intentional.

The referee blew for the foul, but at no time did he look as though he was going to brandish a card, until the biggest cheat of the world cup, Ronaldo, made the comments and gestures.

It was sad to see a world class player do it, but i do feel that the referee did not follow FIFA orders to clap down on cheats.

How many times did the portugese players dive? and how many were booked for doing so? NONE. And they surrounded the ref after rooneys stamp baying for blood.

:o Its been a poor world cup for England and for the fans of football (u)

CHEATS SHOULD NEVER PROSPER!!

What utter nonsense. Rooney stamped on someone's genitals, then raised 2 hands to push another player away. Ronaldo's reaction was perfectly natural of someone who has just seen a team mate be assaulted. Had it been the other way round, the English player would've been surrounding the referee too. And if you take your blinkers off, you'll see England's players dive about just as much, although when they do it, it's called "being clever" or "using his experience".

When the first choice team is fully fit, England are as good as anyone else in the World. As it was, they were lucky to get as far as they did.

Sven was able to take 4 strikers, so what did he do? take one injured one, one unfit one, one that wasn't up to World Cup standards and one that he had no intention of playing. England effectively had no strike force whatsoever.

This left them reliant on their midfielders to score all their goals. The trouble with this is what happens when the midfielders are all tied up on defensive duties? To win the World Cup you need to score goals, and lots of them.

Still, going out on penalties is always cruel. I was secretly hoping Portugal would put one in just before the end of extra time to spare England the misery. The thing is, Portugal looked far from convincing themselves. They will REALLY struggle against France, I reckon.
