stuey 0
Hi guys, i think my head gasket went yesterday evening, engine temp went up etc. RAC man (when they eventually turned up) thinks he can smell exhaust in the header tank, and i probably have a small rad leak. Coolant system had lots of air in it which we couldn't bleed out. Going to ring Stealth tomorrow, anyone got ballpark figure for head gasket so i can cheer myself up
Russ_vr6 12
well i know that main dealer prices are stupid mate but at the dealer i work at we have jus done one on a corrado vr6 and it came 2 980 quid!!!!!!i would say 500 is a good figure from a specialist
mightyvr6 0
The parts are quite cheap. I reckon it should cost no more than £400. Ask Killokilla off the forum for a price before you try anyone else.
stuey 0
Thanks guys, hopefully it will be in the lower end of the £100's. Doesn't this sort of thing always happen when you least need it??

matth76 1
Stuey I had exactly the same problem about a month ago. Was bombing down the motorway in hot weather and suddenly noticed the red water temp light on the dash and the water temp needle at max. Oil temp as a result rose to 118c. Pulled over asap into a layby. AA guy thought it was the headgasket. Had it towed to The Phirm - about 50 miles away (AA well worth it for that) and they diagnosed it was a stuck thermostat in 5 mins. A day later was all fixed. Keep an eye on your coolant level and for any smoke. If no smoke and the coolant level stays constant then you are fine. Is your power still the same? Stealth said it should all be fine. stuey 0
Thats pretty much what happened to me, except i have got RAC. Started ringing them at 7.45pm, got home at midnight (only 7 miles from home!). They eventually agreed to follow on tow it to the phirm, Ian sorted it, same thing jammed thermostat. I am picking it up tomorrow, they think everything is fine. I am going to be paranoid for ages now though
