Aidan 0
Ok, have a strange whine coming from the car;Does it when the car is first started in the morning and the revs are slightly higher, and car is stationary,Does it when letting off the accelerator and revs drop below 2000 when driving,Does it when the air con is on or off, and when steering is being turned or not.Noise does not change if clutch is depressed or not.Noise is more noticable inside the car, than with the bonnet up outside the car (its not coming through the speakers!)Sounds like a quiet horn/trumpet, with the radio on at normal levels you can't really hear it.Any ideas? The search doesn't find anything...

Aidan 0
The power steering does make a little noise at full lock, I thought it only made noise when the wheel is being turned? What noise will a failing slave cylinder make apart from the clicking when depressing the clutch pedal? Mines on its way out and hoping its related really
Russ_vr6 12
the power streering can make noise at any time mate,my mate had a vr that wined so much all the time it sounded like it had a supercharger! try some power strrering treatment
spindat45 0
Noisy alternator? If the bearing is knackered it will make a whining noise. Usually worse when you first start up. Try removing the belt and running the engine BRIEFLY and see if the noise goes. If it does then it is just a process of elimination.Kevin
Seademon 0
You havent got the recirculating button in for the air con have you? This makes the same noise and if it is this thats causing it, the pipe that goes into it the other side of the bulkhead has probably come off
spanky 0
I had what Seademon said and it made a right whining noise, put it back on and all is fine now!!
