Kept up with a BMW Alpina B10

Recommended Posts

Was coming home today and came up to a roundabout and directly in front of me was a BMW (W reg) with alpina B10 on it. I havent heard much about this car. Anyway there was a long open road in front of us. He put his foot down and was really pushing it. I expected it to pull away from me however I actually kept up with it..not easily (I had my foot flat down) but it didnt pull away from me. Anyone else know much about this car or had run ins with any?

it could have been the B10 3.3 ALPINA ,or the 3.2 which there is not many around.

or B10 V8 but would have been badged this way some say B10 V8S.

all switchtronic gearboxes V8'S are fast cars.

i was actually going to buy the 3 series sport e46 one which as the 3.3 engine in it, either that or r32. they are done buy bmw sytners we have a garage in nottm they sell quite a few ALPINAS very nice.

the 5 series is a heavy car the V8 is the one to look out for.the 3.3 is ideal in the e46 which makes it a fast car i would prefer the ALPINA over an m3 for rarity .video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6511975617043828169&q=BMW+ALPINA - 32k - Cached - Similar pages

Thanks guys for your replies. The guy in front was definitely trying. Before I even got to the roundabout he was rocketing away (the distance was about 40 yards between us when he decided to accelerate from the roundabout exit and I put my foot down too and that distance didn't change) It was from a rolling start in 2nd gear (which benefited my VR as I'm sure the B10 would slaughter it from standstill if it has a V8 and can do 0-60 in 5.8). As said before the VR seems very competitive and can surprise quite a few cars from rolling starts. It was the 5 series shape with a subtle spoiler and double exhaust. Very little markings other than Alpina and B10 on the back. I thought it initially said '8'10 but then I saw it actually said B10.

I had a run in with a Civic type R the other day when one was behind me. I knew he was definitely trying that day because I pulled in in front of him making him visibly pissed off, going straight on at a round about when I was in the right hand lane. Anyway he was tailing me fairly close and when we got to a long straight I decided to see what the civic was like and put my foot down. He kept up very well, which I wasn't surprised however after 10 secs I did start increasing the gap and he started getting further away from me in the mirror. I thought perhaps he might have let off the gas.. however I knew this wasnt the case at the next roundabout as I accelerated away again and this time he wanted to race again and did keep up so was still trying however I had to let off the gas as there was traffic in front. So all in all I would say that civic was a very equal car to my lightly modded VR however I would say the VR had the edge on higher speeds.

To top it off I don't think my VR is pulling as hard as it should high up the rev range either. Need to get it looked at by Stealth.
