Pete.sVR6 0
All, Yes just when I need it too!! ~ , Have been told that my Aircon compressor needs to be replaced, and yes you have guessed it we are talking lots of money, have been quoted £530 fitted and re-gassed etc. I think I trust the diagnosis, just wondered if anybody else has had the same problem? have read that this can be a common fault with Golfs etc.Thanks. VR6Pete 1,455
whats the problem with ur air con mate?
Pete.sVR6 0
VR6peteIn a nutshell its not throwing out cold air as it should be, had the car AA checked before i bought it, and they reported it wasn't working properly, seller (a Trader) said it just needed re-gassing, which he did, bought the car in the winter so assumed all was well, have now been told that there is plenty of gas in the system, but still no cold air so it is propably a fault with the Compressor. VR6Pete 1,455
ahhh, ive got an issue with mine, but ive tracked it down to the air con relay not switching in correctly. my compressor does work, but only when my rad fans kick in ?!?! weird! jsut had mine gassed up and it showed a problem after, i felt quite pissed off after! tandino 1
Dont know the ins and the outs of the golf A/C system (yet) but there a usually a few switches you can manually bridge to see if its a switch problem before giving in the ghost and going to a specialist. On top of the reciever/dyer is a presure switch which will cut power to the a/c clutch if the system presure drops below a certain level - bridge this if it kicks the a/c in its low pressure in the system.Other switches are usually one on the evaporator or thereabouts to stop the evaporator from freezing - ie the a/c operating continuosly until it reaches 0'C - test this switch by doing the same as above - if the a/c kicks in faulty switch.Dont know if the Golf has it on its system but there is usually a overheat switch somewhere- if the car gets too hot it will cut the a/c to reduce load on the engine - bridge as above....Hope this may help somewhat - i dont know the exact locations of the componenets but it cant be too hard to find them.Pete. Pete.sVR6 0
tandino,Thanks for the advice, I think most of the things you have suggested have been checked by the company who did the re gas, however I have heard a clicking noise in the area of the compressor unit, may be related to my problems? just I can't afford to do anything about it now as I have spent on wheels etc, wouldn't mind normally just its been bloody hot lately and the leather seats don't help. tandino 1
Have you tried running a wire directly from the battery positive to the a/c compressor - ie bypass all switches to see if it kicks in???Pete.
Pete.sVR6 0
tandino,No haven't tried that, but I think the compressor does switch on and off, i.e if I turn on the climatronic you can hear a loud click from the engine bay, have to admit i'm useless with cars when things go wrong.
