crish72 0
Just got my first VR6 although i have owned 3 MK2 GTi's in the past and was wondering how the VR6 Engine is supposed to sound whilst ticking over?...mine has a faint 'tappety' noise. Do VR's tick over quietly or should i expect this ticking?I'm not that worried about it as the engine sounds and goes so sweet but was just wondering what they actually sounded like.I seem to recall that my GTi's had a similar 'tappety' sound to them...CheersChrisPS..Pretty certain it isnt the chains...i assume that would be more of a rattle? spindat45 0
Hi. As long as it is not a raspy noise coming from the gearbox side at about 2000rpm then i wouldn't worry. That would point towards a timing chain tensioner problem. The VR6 engine is generally a bit rattly on idle. Kevin

Then i checked the sound clip of a VR with worn chains and it def aint that. I think it is just the normal sound at idle. I wouldn't worry, unless someone else more 'in the know' can put me straight, in which case mine will need whatever it is sorting too! :-*
