    My New Zealand VR6

I've owned my vr for nearly 2 years now and been a vr6oc forum user for a while untill i upgraded to a member and I thought it was about time that i started something to tell the story of my much loved VR So im a massive VW fan and had vw's since i passed my test 7 years ago and got hooked on the vw seen loved going to all the shows and got tied up with a really good crew of vw lovers in the south west. fast forward a few years i sold my current vw for a plane ticket and i moved to New Zealand with nothing more than 23kg of clothes! Been here for 2 1/2 years and really love the life style

  2. as title guys, who is the cheapest to buy these parts from?? golf vr6 2.8. or would genuine new standard headbolts be ok for a stage 2 supercharger running 8psi @300bhp?? also standard headgasket ok?? best regards

  3. tried this before will little success, not after an essay just a few letters/numbers as to what oil you put/recommend in a supercharged vr6 with extensive mods running 314+bhp all the best!

    Dragodzilla Vr6 :-)

My mk3 vr6 more door. Story goes that I bough the car of my customer (now a very good friend) Jamie who asked me to supply and fit air ride to his 1997 minter. Shortly after giving the car back to him he called me asking if I wanted the car as he was going to put it up for sale. After spending so many hours fixing a few bodges that other mechanics have done in the past for J, detailing the cargo last bolt and nut and seeing its transformation in my workshop I kind of got attached to it and for no matter what, I didn't want jamie to sell it to someone who would take so much pride in it as Jamie

  8. Youve probably seen my other post, but I spoke to vice today and he helped out with which guides to use. But turns out valves are not required and all the play was in the guides.

  10. the headgasket is weeping coolant down the block on the 2.8 golf vr6, ive cleaned it thinking its the core plug but its not. what else should i replace once its all off?? all the chains and guides have been done 3 years ago! compression test is still showing 160psi and there is no water mixing with oil etc......... new headbolts - ARP?? genuine headgasket i get a bit of oily smoke when i start it up sometimes but it clears straight away, guides im guessing?? may as-well replace everything necessary while its apart! regards

    Wiring in vr6 fans

Could do with some help wiring in my fans on my Mk1 vr6! I have after market fans and just want them to run at full speed don't have any of the wiring for the old vr6 fans or the control box! Just want to wire them to the fuse box but not sure which connectors to wire into on the fuse box?

    Wiring in vr6 fans

can you not use a mk2 golf gti rad fan switch take a feed from the batt (fused) to the switch in the rad then the switched side of the temp sensor then goes to your fans?? if they are big jobbies then use the rad switch to switch a contactor and use the contactor to switch the bigger load for the fans? other than that you could run a seperate switch in the car somewhere and just switch it manually but then you need to keep an eye on the temp guage. Unsure what supply in the f.b would be for the fans

  28. FRANK VR6 thanks for the reply.. I'm in Joburg you? the car seems to start now but not reliably.. it will start and then after letting it die it doesn't start again till a day or two later.. it's running very rich at the moment so want to try lean it out because there's a chance the plugs are getting wet. then see if anything changes, if not then ya the head is coming off again.

  32. thanks lukey, there is nothing wrong with any other pipes or hardware etc but i might change the crack pipe as it will be a front end off job again. ive got a set of new inlet manifold gaskets in the garage and a 6 branch exhaust so gaskets for the exhaust are not a concern. i can strip it all down no problem, its just the timing im not sure about as ive never done a vr6 before! would a standard genuine vw headgasket and standard bolts be ok for a stage 2 charger running 300bhp?

  35. If youre going to have it in bits again in the future if you have FI plans then ARP are going to be worth the money as they are re usable, otherwise a set of elring or febi headbolts will suffice for about £20, a genuine set is about £120! If you can find a victor reinz headgasket outside of VW get it, otherwise go to VW for the gasket too. Youll need at least an upper inlet manifold gaskets and 2 exhaust downpipe gaskets too, depending on where you split them. It would be a good time to do the water pump, crack pipe and oil cooler pipes, if not the oil cooler too. Its also the classic

  39. Thanks for the responses guys. I realise it's difficult not having the car in front of you but unfortunately i have no choice, i'm in south africa. I'm more just looking for ideas and opinions - is my concern about the head justified etc.. the crank pick up is working, fuel and spark is there.. one thing i may have done when i tried to pull start it the second time when it wouldn't start is fowled the plugs.. i'll pull them out this evening to make sure they aren't wet. the management has a rough map on at the moment, hasn't been tuned properly as the car wouldn't start. 40. I've had it before when the fob doesn't work but only after disconnecting the battery. What I do is a bit long winded, probably a bit OCD and some steps maybe unnecessary but it works for me. Pop the bonnet up the lock all of the doors manually with the key, including the boot then I leave the key inside the passenger door lock. Disconnect the - cable from the battery. Pop it back on and hopefully then it should be working again. Alarm may go off when you reconnect the - cable but if its working then you will be able to switch it off with the fob. If it doesn't work, take off the - cable again

    My Mystic Blue MK3 VR6

Had these recently delivered I also got an insurance quote, not realizing if you've not had insurance for two years or more you lose all your no claims bonus so as you can imagine living in South London and all mods declared I was shocked with the price and not willing to pay anything like what I was quoted. So I'm looking for a daily, something like a mk3 tdi estate to bring my insurance down and to get around as I've had no car while doing this but that'll be once I get myself straight as I was made redundant last December and have only just started working again last week.
