    VR6's from Russia

And now - several photos for this week Before swap - we had 2 (actually 3 ) motors - and we need the only 1 to swap. First we disassembled 2 of them completely. And we were surprised - one of them was almost ABV - ABV camshafts & Intake manifold! We were sure we have 2 AAA's We bought Victor Reinz gaskets & sealings for head & block, 6 sets of NPR piston rings (with composite oil scrapper ring), red silicon hose kit and started to assemble And then it was fatal unluck - all 3 cylinder heads are not in good condition ((( So we decided to repair one by the hands

  3. Did a bit more tonight. Schimmel 263 cams are in. Couldn't get one of the sprockets off the old cam. Ended up breaking my own 1/2 x 3/8 adaptor and my mates snap on one! Decided to go and see if any of the garages would be open still and found a guy who was still open at 9.30 at night and he manged to get the bolt undone. Great result! Didn't bother going back to my lockup though as I had already put everything away. But also managed to get my bottom chain in so tomorrow I should be able to get the top chain done.

    First VR6.

Condition is good . Still got to see her up close though. Mileage is 132k. Motd til next July. Sorry. I'm not from Falmouth. Meeting with friends and drive her home to Scotland on Sunday if all OK. Mechanically not bad but not a pro !! Trying to get a lock up from my local council for it but no word yet. Yeah I would be making sure KEVIN kept his hands off her !!!!! Looking forward to driving and working on her. Second car for me and missus to enjoy. Vw enthusiast like you so will take my time getting her up to a good standard.

Rust along top of windscreen is another one, check for any damp in footwells and under boot carpets. How handy are you mechanically? If you've ever changed a car clutch in the past the timing chains aren't such a big job to do at home with assistance from the forum, but hellish expensive on the labour if done in a garage. And at that point, it would have to be an Indy specialist that knows the VR engine not the local Kevin Webster.

Seems a reasonable price. Would need to find out what the service history is like as there could be a few big bills lurking, to name a few; Timing chains+tensionersClutchCooling system overhaulSuspension; bushes, track rod ends etcHeater matrix maybeDouble double check for rust. Popular areas are the sills, around the rubber bungs in the floor and of course the bottom of the front wings. Most of the above is ripe for replacing around the 100k mile mark
